Since I haven't done Ryan's pov, this chapter will be his pov. :) Also, because I'm nice, I'll update even though I haven't reached my reads and votes goal. Enjoy.
Ryan
I watched as Val walked out of the room. God, thank you for blessing me with such a beautiful, intelligent, and altruistic woman. My woman now. I finally did it. I finally proposed after so long. We've been knowing each other for 20 years but we've only been dating for 15 years. I remember the first day I met Valerie.
It was a hot summer day in 1993, in the middle of June to be exact. I was walking down the busy streets of Harlem, New York. Sweat was dripping off of my tanned forehead. Not very much white people lived in the slums so I was getting stares from black strangers. I didn't mind though. I was used to it. I looked up, blocking the sun light from my eyes.
That's when I saw her. Valerie. She was a short and thin girl with extremely long curly hair that hung above her butt. She playing in the water with her friends I'm guessing. Her smile is what caught my eye. The two dimples that sunk in when ever the water hit her face. She occasionally brushed back a few loose curls. She was flawless. That day, I knew I would have to make her mine.
I strolled up to her and her friends and tapped her on the shoulder. She quickly spun around and gave me that look she gives when she's confused.
"Hi. I'm Ryan. What's your name?" I smiled at her, the water from the fountain spraying me.
"I'm Valerie." She looked down at her hands as she played with them. Her cheeks turned crimson.
"You're pretty." I commented. Me being only 8, I didn't know any other words to describe a girl's features.
"Thank you. You're cute too." She smiled, her dimples sinking in.
"Why is your voice like that?" She furrowed her eyebrows.
"What do you mean?" I looked at her, bemused.
"It sounds funny. Where are you from?" She questioned, flipping her curls out of her face.
"Ipswich. I'm British." I stated, proudly.
"Oh." She said.
"Can I play with you?" I slightly smiled.
"Sure." She squeaked excitedly, grabbing my hand and dragging me into the fountain.
The cool water hitting my skin caused me to relax. It felt like heaven. Valerie, her friends, and I played for hours in the water until we heard a female's voice bellow out.
"Valerie. Get your ass in here now!" Valerie's eyes widened as she looked up at me. Fear and panic written all over her face. I furrowed my eyebrows at her and walked her to her mom.
"Who is this?" Disgust evident in her voice.
"My new friend, Ryan." Val beamed.
"You're 6, you don't have friends." She spat, snatching Valerie's arm.
"But I'll be 7 next month mama." She whined as her mom slammed the door in Ryan's face.
Her mom never liked me, which explains why I always sneaked in to keep Valerie company and to cheer her up. She once was suicidal but I got her out of that depression. Tammy was never loving. When I first asked Valerie to be my girlfriend, she was insecure and doubtful. She felt like I would treat her just like mother and father did. Lord knows I would never do her like that.
