Chapter One

Ever since Alice was a little girl she always felt that she was different. Growing up in a family of five with her being the middle child, she always felt like she was the odd one out. Her sister Rachel aged 17 was always the favourite when it came to her parents. She was the eldest, the prettiest and the most talented out of the two Denton sisters. She was a member of the royal ballet company and was on the road to a successful career as a professional ballerina.

The youngest of the Denton family was Oliver at the age of 8 he was already considered an overachiever with guaranteed places offered to him from both Harrow and Eton on a scholarship programme. Alice, who had recently turned 14 attended the local comprehensive high school, where she had just finished year 9. She was looking forward to starting her GCSE where she could finally prove herself and achieve s that would make her parents proud.    

Mr Denton was a proud man and always believed that people made their own luck and success in life. When he found out he was going to be a father for the first time he made a promise to himself that he would ensure that all his children would succeed in all that they do. Although he would never admit it, he has always been slightly embarrassed and a little ashamed to have Alice as his daughter. It frustrated him that Alice didn’t share any common interested with the rest of the family and spent most of her time alone with a book. Unlike her husband Mrs Denton was the most caring and friendliest woman you would ever meet. She loved all her children equally no matter how smart or talented they were. She would often find herself worrying over her youngest daughter, as Alice never really showed much interest in any school or out of school activity and spent too much time alone. Regardless of this she always believe that there was something special about her Alice and that her daughter would soon start living the live she was intended to live.
