My first memory is green. I had opened my eyes to beautiful greenery, intermingled with flowers of reds, yellows, purples, and oranges. I was allowed to lay there, my eyes adjusting to the light and color of the surrounding area. The noises were at once loud and soothing. Soon, a hand reached out, providing me support and help as I carefully sat up. More wonders came into my field of vision. I saw creatures, black and white striped ones, yellow ones, black ones, gray ones, even orange and blue ones. There were so many shapes and sizes, I had no idea what they were called. Each made a different sound. Some squawked. Some chirped. Others brayed. One or two made a soft rumbling sound in their throat. Some even made loud barking sounds.
Bringing my feet underneath me, I stood. The view around me was overwhelming with its riot of color and sounds. The one who had helped me stood with another like him. Each had deep blue eyes with shoulder length white hair, though I could not tell if the white hair came from their hair being actually white, or the bright glow that seemed to surround them. These two wore loose garments of purest white, almost too white to view. I knew within me that these two were greater than any other I would ever know. These were my creators, my Gods.
Though I could see that these two were separate individuals, I could tell that one was older, wiser. The younger one spoke, and his deep, kind voice filled me.
“Are you ready?” He asked.
“For what?” I answered.
“To meet your mate.”
After only a brief pause, “Gladly” I replied.
We walked a short distance. There I saw a being much like my two escorts, though he had not the glow about him. His hair was dark brown, and his eyes a penetrating blue, much like those of my escorts. He had a kindness about him, his eyes, his mouth; yet, there was a loneliness as well. I would soon learn the cause of his loneliness.
The younger God introduced us,”This is Adam, Man, and the lord of this Earth.”
“Adam, you are not meant to live alone,” the younger of the two Gods began. “You have been created to be the lord of this earth, and as such you have been charged to name the creatures. Have you done so?”
“I have,” he replied. “Each of these has been given names. That is a giraffe. This is dog. Over there are different cats: lion, puma, and tiger. Over in that tree is a parrot, a bird. That bird is a robin, and that is a peacock in the grass, showing of his beautiful tail. That is an elephant, those are bison . . .”
“Excellent” the younger God interrupted, “but the creatures do not provide you with the company you need.”
“No, they do not,” the not-god, Adam, replied. “I find that though I am busy, I am sad, and lonely. How can that be? In such a beautiful world?”
“We knew your needs. We caused you to sleep while we created this one from your rib. What will you call her?”
I held my breath, knowing the importance of this. My name would have meaning throughout the ages. What would this beautiful man name me? His tall, muscled body stood close to mine, warming me.
He turned to me, “Woman.”
“Why will you call her Woman?”
Looking back at the Gods, he said, “I am Man. I will call her Woman, for she is bone of my bones. And, I will call her Eve, for she is Mother of all living.” Adam looked at me with those deep blue eyes, and took my hand.
Adam is Man, I am Woman! I have a name, I am Eve. The thought thrilled my senses.
“Eve is to be your help meet, to work with you, to be with you, to comfort you. In short, she is to be your mate.” I could do that.
