Our first full day out of Eden was a challenge. We could not just find our favorite fruits and nuts and gather them. We started our day again putting on the unfamiliar clothing that had been made for us. It had helped us to stay warm during the night. Now, we needed it to cover our nakedness, and to keep the wind from our bodies. We were more aware of the wind today. This was interesting to us, but we had so much to do to stay alive that we did not take time to analyze it or discuss it until later.

I had been sure to save some of the fruit and nuts from last night’s meal for this morning. That helped, but there was not much to save for later. We had to find more to eat, and explore our new home. We did not want to move far from Eden, for that was where Eloheim and Jehovah were. But, we had to discover exactly what we had to face in our new life. What did the land look like. It would not be fruit trees and ease. We had been told that. We were to earn our bread by the sweat of our brow. We must work for our food, and our lives.

I found the cats near our feet. They had slept there most of the night. It was nice, we had cats, sheep, and goats to help keep us company. That was nice.

After dressing and eating, we began to move out from our little thicket in the woods. We soon returned to the open plain. We wanted to see what grew on the plain. We walked through it, noticing the tall grasses. On the ends of the grasses were warm yellow seeds. As I brushed through them, the tops broke off in my hands. I found these seeds in my hand.

“Look, Adam,” I said, catching his attention. There are seeds growing in the top of these grasses.”

“I have been looking at them. I wonder if they are good to eat.” He took a small seed, and popped it into his mouth. I watched him chew it. “Good, but not much of it to eat. I will eat more. You should try some.” We each placed several of the small seeds into our mouths and chewed. He was right. This did taste good. At least for a while, we would have something to eat, thoug not very large. I was amazed that it had helped to fill my stomach so quickly.

We continued onward. Other grasses also had seeds on them, and we tasted these, as well. Each had a distinctive flavor, each was chewy and filling. We came to a hill and began to climb. It was not steep, but we were unused to climbing hills. When we arrived at the top, Adam searched around for large stones. He began to pile them together near the top of the hill.

“What are you doing,” I asked.

“I am preparing an altar to give thanks to our God. We have this new home, this lovely land. We have a time to work out our salvation, and Father said that a Savior would come, in time, to redeem us from our sins. I will call upon them, I will thank them for their goodness, and pray that they will help us as we learn to live in this world.”

I saw his point, and helped to gather stones and place them into a pile. Our Gods deserved our gratitude, and we would need their help over the next few days. They had promised us light and knowledge. We truly needed these.

After much work, the altar was completed. It was at the top of the hill, near to God. We hoped he would hear our plea.

“Oh, God. Hear my plea. Oh, God, hear my plea. Oh, God, hear my plea,” he prayed as we knelt at the altar.

“I hear you” a voice spoke from a near tree. “What do you want?” A man stepped from behind the tree.

We stood, wondering who would interrupt our prayer to our God. “Who are you?” asked Adam.

As he showed himself, I saw that this was the same Lucifer who had beguiled me the day before. I looked at Adam, who had been watching me. He saw the recognition in my eyes of this impostor.
