Everyone back home called her Sydney Rain, named after her mother Rein, and the city in which she was born. She had the sunniest personality, which matched her favorite kind of weather. Sydney Rain wasn't one to let people be sad, and the happiness radiating off of her made it hard to be sad around her.
Everyone at the hospital called her Darling or Honey, not knowing her name or the story behind it. They didn't know how her mother died, or why she was on the wrong side of the road. All they knew was that her heartbeat was steady and she was alive.
They asked him a lot of questions when he woke, such as his name, Michael, and what happened to cause him a set of broken ribs and leg. He didn't know much, other than a red car swerving into his lane and throwing both vehicles off the road. When he asked about the other driver, they shrugged their shoulders and moved onto the next set of questions.
When they finally left him alone that night, he asked one of the nurses to take him to visit the other person. After begging, she finally complied, wheeling him down the hallway in an oversized wheelchair that made him look like a small child.
They had managed to clean the blood out of her hair, and had braided it so it would stay out of the way when they changed the bandages across her face. A brace was strapped onto her wrists, barely covering some of the tubes that were keeping her alive. Bandages were peeking out from under the blankets, protecting the stitches she received after surgery.
"Is she gonna be okay?"
"Nobody knows."
