he woke up that morning, thankful that the sun was a star and giant enough to fit an infinity of stars, because this way he could perfectly consider himself a morning person as well as a night person.

his curtains allowed a rather generous view into his front yard, where radiant light hit the ground like beams of falling angels. and without doubt, an overwhelming sense of warmth welcomed him with open arms.

he slinked into a chair at the table when he entered the kitchen, and just sat there silently. so many wondrous things came to his mind. this usually occurred because the day was good enough.

but amongst this, his cat, jennifer, crept up past his bare feet and purred loud enough for him to consider putting out a feed.

but she'd already eaten. he knew that. anyone younger than him would even know that. her bowl was beside the fridge, and it's debri-lined rim was a dead giveaway. gus' father must have fed her before he went to work.

he attempted to shove her away with his foot, contemplating on whether or not to take her outside to find herself something to do.

when he picked up his black feline, and struggled to keep her in a stable condition as she squirmed for freedom, he decided to put her in the garden.

he was sure his mother wouldn't appreciate the fact that she'd have to wash jennifer again, but yet here he was and it was too late (according to gus) to go back inside. so he placed jennifer on the damp dirt, her claws elongating due to its texture.

he grabbed a stick and snapped it in two, discarding of one but in need of the other and began digging little holes deep enough to find any bugs for jennifer to eat.

by now she had wondered off, scratching her claws against the bark of his mother's tree. and he was sure his mother wouldn't appreciate that either.

he successfully managed to dig up an earthworm and he carried it over to his feline as she stretched out her limbs.

he placed it in front of her, in hopes that she would eat it, or something, but she sniffed at it and tore away, far more interested elsewhere.

and gus felt silly.
