FINALLY A CHAPTER!!!!!!
"Hey Mitch." Jerome says, walking in the hospital room.
"Hey guys." He gives us a small and sad smile.
"How are you holding up?" I ask, hugging him. He sighs and looks over to Maddy's lifeless body. The only sign of movement is her chest moving up and down slightly.
"She'll be ok..." Jerome says sympathetically.
"But...." He lifts his head up and sighs, revealing him holding back tears. "...what if she won't..."
Jerome and I stay silent, and I sit next to him on the bed. He starts to cry and I hold his hand in both of mine.
"It's ok..." I comfort him. After a couple of seconds, the doctor comes in and I look behind me to her.
"I apologize for interrupting, but may I see you two in the hall for a second?" She asks politely.
"Sure." Jerome responds, heading towards the door. I follow him and close the door behind me.
"Sarah is in a lot of danger. She lost a lot of blood and will need to have some surgery done. (I did my research, as impossible as it may sound, it's valid.) The piece of glass mostly hit her lower ribs, and slightly skimmed her lungs, causing oxygen loss, which is why we've hooked her up to a ventilator. She will need a lobectomy, (That is indeed a real word) which means that we will have to remove a lobe of her lung. It's very fortunate that it only hit a lobe of her lung. She'll have it done tomorrow." Jerome and I look at each other and I smile a bit, happy to know that Maddy can be saved.
"Thank you, we'll tell Mitch." I say, opening the door.
"Oh! And also, Mitchell will be out in about 3 days, he will need crutches, but no severe damage was done." She says, smiling a bit.
We step into the room and I go over to Mitch.
"Maddy's having surgery done. She'll be ok." I say, smiling. Mitch's eyes light up and I laugh a little.
"And you get out in 3 days." Jerome adds on.
"Yay!" Mitch says, throwing his arms in the air.
"Alright, well I'm hungry, so I'm gonna go get some food for all of us. How does Wendy's sound?" Jerome says, grabbing his keys and phone.
"Good!" Mitch says.
"Can I come?" I say, holding on to Jerome's arm and looking up at him. "I mean if it's ok with you, Mitch."
"Of course! You kids have fun." He laughs a bit.
We walk out of the hospital and when we get to the car, I look over to Jerome.
"She's gonna be ok...." I say in awe and happiness.
"I can't believe it!" I say, jumping up and down, while I hold his hands. He laughs and keeps walking to the car with me.
~Skip to when dey done with lunch~
"Visiting hours are over, sorry." The nurse politely says as she enters the room.
"Alright, See you tomorow, Mitch." I reply, stepping out of the room and waving. Jerome does the same and we walk out to the car.
"This is almost perfect." I say as our hands swing together to the pace of our walking.
"Mhmm." He agrees, looking off at the sky. He was deep in thought, I could tell.
"What are you thinking about?" I ask.
"Nothing much...I was just remembering how I felt when you were in the hospital..." His voice trails off.
"I still feel horrible about that." I say, looking ahead of me.
"You shouldn't. You didn't know what you were saying, it's not your fault."
"Not the fact that I said it...that the thought was even in my head...I wouldn't have said it if it wasn't there. And it's not true at all...I love you more than life itself." I say, looking up at Jerome's eyes.
"I love you too...and everyone has a side to them that's just the opposite to them, That you can't control...it's just there." I lean over and kiss his cheek.
"Thank you."
