"Maddy McMaire, please." Jerome says, leaning on the desk in the waiting room.
"Yes, follow me." We follow the cheery blonde nurse down a long hospital hallway. Jerome wouldn't tell me what's going on, so I was anxious.
"Here you are. Room 113." She responds stopping by a door.
"Thank you." Jerome replies, grabbing the door handle. We walk in to see Mitch's back facing us. He turns and we see him holding Maddy's hand, and she is in worse condition than before. Countless machines, IV's and other things that I didn't know.
"Mitch..." I choked out.
"She had a sudden burst in heart rate..." He sniffed and let out a shaky sigh. "And then it completely dropped. She was dead for 3 minutes."
I started breaking down crying, and by breaking down, I mean breaking down.
I felt weak and fell into Jerome's arms, as he gasped and clung me to his chest. I cried like crazy. He spoke comforting words into me ear and kissed my head, making me calm down a bit.
I had a reason to react this way. Maddy has been my friend since I was 6. We aspired to be on Broadway, and made it. We had completed our life long dream together, and I just got the news that my friend could have died.
As if on queue, right as I started to calm down, Maddy's heart monitor started to go crazy. Before I knew it, I was rushed out of the room, crying in Jerome's arms again.
Seconds turned to minutes and minutes to hours, until finally, as I was about to fall asleep against Jerome's chest, the cheery blonde nurse came out.
"Maddy McMaire is available for visiting." She chirped. We walked down the hall and as we passed by the nurse, I heard a piece of paper crinkle and look over to Jerome, who has the folded piece of paper in his hand. He opens it to find an assortment of numbers and I feel my face go hot. I look over to Jerome who looks back and laughs a bit.
"Jealous?" he jokes.
"Shut up." I say looking back in front of me. He puts his arm around me and pulls me closer, while pecking my cheek. He pulls his head close to my war and whispers.
"You're the only one I want."
