Alec’s POV

Alec stayed cuddled with Lilya until her breath finally slowed and the trembling ceased, she quickly fell asleep in his arms; making him wish he could sleep, which seemed impossible. After all that has happened exhaustion kicked in, but not well enough to knock him out and end the living nightmare. Cautiously he slipped away from the girl, whose face turned sour in her sleep as he did so, making him roll his eyes. Reaching for his pants he shivered and looked out into the foggy night, it was freezing; did she survive on the furs alone?

Looking around he saw no other source of warmth, not a single fire lit in the whole cave, making him wonder why. Alec shook his head and sighed, crawling back into the blanket of furs to Lilya. He petted her hair gently and fell in love with her sleepy smile; tomorrow he would make it his personal mission to speak with her- even if the same language was not present.

Sleep ignored him however through most of the night, was it the open space? His room was small back at home, or was it just the fact he was in a place he had never been to before? Would he ever get used to it? He sighed in frustration, having no trouble with falling asleep usually and cursed. He didn’t dare leave the girl, although a midnight stroll would be nice; she would either be taken away by the bitch Queen or freeze…

His mind ended up wandering to earlier making him angry, “Boy!” He flinched as a snappy his sounded from across the cave.

He glared over Lilya’s shoulder, it was the Queen, ‘well, grandma used to say, speak of the devil and he shall appear…’ “What?” He snapped back, pulling Lilya into him instinctually.

“The two of you are going to freeze to death if you stay out here all night!” she said, coming closer.

“Gee, thanks for the update captain obvious, what do you suggest I do about that?” he rolled his eyes, his cockiness taking control.

“Why don’t you take her to her chambers? You may stay with her if you like, but I would prefer to keep you both alive.” She answered simply before turning curtly and leaving, “all the way down the hall and to the right.” She threw over her shoulder, before disappearing completely.

Alec blinked, that was actually a good suggestion, and not wanting to admit defeat to the Queen just yet he shimmied out of the fur bed once more and grabbed Lilya’s ‘clothes’ before gently scooping her up, along with the furs she wrapped herself in. She weighed no more than a hundred pounds soaking wet, an easy lift for him, glancing around he made his way out the door and down the dark hall.

Her room was warmer than the others he had been in, but no heater or fire in sight, shaking his head again he placed her on the low laying bed and nodded, satisfied. She would be far better off now, and he would probably feel better about falling asleep…after he snooped around. Alec, being a snoopy teen like he was decide to dive for the first thing he saw, a notebook on a desk on the far side of the room- a diary perhaps? He smirked as he opened it, gasping, no, a sketchbook! Thinking it over for a split second, he let his curiosity get the best of him and flipped the cover page, filled with doodles and ineligible handwriting in some weird lettering, a mixture of Russian and Thai?

He was surprised by what he saw- it seemed to be a little booklet about the Queen and the girl. It was as if he read her life through these pages, she must have been raised here- several drawings were of her as an infant and child. Maybe that’s why she acted so surprised when she saw him- he’d probably be the first boy she’s actually seen. If his theory was true and the human-looking people were druj, than they would never have aged.
