BEFORE SCHOOL

'Do I really have to go to school? After all that's happened!' Chris whined to his mother.

'You aren't even half way through the grade and you have already maxed out your absences! So yes, after all that's happened, you will. But don't tell anyone of what's happened, okay?' Asta added the last sentence on after a moments hesitation.

'Ja, okay...' He grumbled, 'But I have to tell her best friend, it was him who she was looking for last night...'

'Okay, but be careful.' Asta warned, 'But anyways, Elli will probably sleep most of today, so you're not missing anything,'

'What are we gonna do, though? Honestly, like what position are we in right now? How long is she gonna stay with us? Is she going to go to school? Do you need to contact the police?' Chris asked.

'We are in whatever position we need to be in, she can stay as long as she needs, she will probably have to enrol at Nissen if she continues to stay with us, and about taking legal action or contacting the police; you will simply have to trust me, I will sort it out, don't worry,'

Feeling reassured, Chris headed off to school.

AT SCHOOL

Isak Valtersen had called Elli ten times today.
He knew that her phone was probably not in her reach, still, but he couldn't help it. He was worried.

His mood has caused a bit of disruption between him and his friends, and he was currently being interrogated by Jonas who was starting to get pissed off at his friends distant and blunt manner.

Jonas was mid accusation when he noticed Chris Schistad walking their way. Any other time Jonas wouldn't have though anything of it, but the determined and slightly persistent posture he was taking put the male on edge, that and the fact he had made out with Jonas' girlfriend.

Both Isak and Jonas stiffened as Chris grew near, they both had reason to believe he was headed for them. Fortunately for Jonas, it was Isak the third year was after.

Chris gave Isak a small nod notifying him to follow, Jonas looked at Isak with confusion and disbelief as he walked off.

Once in more private quarters, Isak exploded with questions;

'It's Elli isn't it? Is she okay? What's happened?' Isak's voice was urgent and desperate causing Chris to roll his eyes, throwing his head back slightly whilst Isak rambled on.

'Alright!' Chris interrupted with an exaggerated hand gesture, 'She's fine, she's sleeping at the moment, I think. She's at home, my home, with my Mum and sister, they've both taken the day off. She's well taken care of.

'She came over last night completely out of sorts, looking for you, I would have helped her with the request if it hadn't been for her poor state; totally beaten up, cold and wet.

'She ran from Sofienberg to downtown Oslo, in the rain. We got her showered, dressed and fed.'

'What?' Isak responded, confused.

'Do I have to repeat myself? She came to-'

'Nei,' Isak interrupted, 'Why, is what I meant. Why was she beaten up?'

'Oh,' Chris had forgotten to mention the most important part, he paused for a few moments, contemplating how to lay the information down, 'It was her dad,' He began with a slight stutter, 'All the injuries were by his hand, or from her journey over to mine.'

Isak let out a heavy breath and slumped against a nearby wall, running his hand slowly through his unruly hair.

'Fuck...' Isak muttered.

'Ja, I'm sure you know that you can't tell anyone of this?' Isak nodded, flinching when the class bell rang, 'I can talk a bit more tonight, if you want...'

AFTER SCHOOL

When Chris finally arrived home he barely paid attention to his mother and sister, he said a brief greeting and sped off down the hall to the guest room. Asta and Runa chuckled at his behaviour.

'Elli?' Chris knocked on the slightly ajar door, pushing it open slightly. He saw the girl laying on her back, staring up at the ceiling, a small smile glittered her face. Chris set down the takeaway carry tray on the glass table to his right and strode over to the bed, laying himself down next to Elli, mimicking her position.

'You brought coffee?' Elli croaked, her smile expanding slightly.

'Ja, got you an iced one, Isak told me it was your favourite.'

'You talked to Isak?' Her smile faded slightly.

'Yeah, told him what was going on. Do you want to talk to him?' Chris turned into his side to look at the girl.

'Nei,' She replied hesitantly. Chris faltered.

'Nei?'

'It's not about him, I just want to stay off the radar for a bit. I don't really want to talk to anyone. Outside of here, that is.' Elli's voice was smoother now, having been talking for a bit, 'Do you get it?'

'I get it.'
