Ryan's eyes fluttered open as everything came rushing back to her. She was slightly dizzy and her head hurt. She sat up slowly, but it only made her dizzier.
Breathing in and out, trying to quell her spinning head, she looked around the room. It was dimly lit, which helped her head, but there was nothing in the room. She was laying on a stone bed, next to her, on a stone ledge, was an empty glass and a pitcher of water.
She poured a glass, smelled it, detecting no poison, she gulped it down, her mouth had been dry.
She took another breath and tried to stand, but that nearly made her faint from dizziness.
As she sat back down, the large wooden door opened and a young girl walked in.
Ryan tried to prepare herself, in case it was a fight, but she was just about useless. However, she hissed again and bared her fangs.
The girl, appearing not to notice came forward and replaced the pitcher of water.
It took Ryan a moment to realize that the girl was blind.
The girl faced Ryan, holding the empty pitcher in her hand.
"How are you feeling?" the girl asked.
Ryan took a moment to respond, composing herself.
"Not great. Where am I?" Ryan asked.
"Somewhere safe." the girl responded.
"Underground if I had to guess." Ryan said. She could smell must and dirt, signs of being underground.
The girl nodded.
"How did you get away from the creature?" Ryan asked.
The girl looked confused for a moment and then smiled softly.
"Veritas is his name. And I did not get away. He brought you here and asked that I look after you. My name is Ras."
Ryan was taken aback, but not so much surprised. She would have been surprised if this girl had somehow gotten away from the creature.
"So I am prisoner here?" Ryan asked.
"For now." Ras responded. "But you are not prisoner to this room. Are you hungry?"
Ryan was hungry. She must have been unconscious for a while.
"Dinner is almost ready, and Veritas will be joining us. He can explain the reason for your imprisonment." Ras was saying as she turned to lead Ryan from the room.
Ryan sat back down.
"What? I have to dine with him?" Ryan asked incredulously. "He hits me, takes me prisoner, is going to possibly kill me, but you, I, am dining with him?"
"He is actually quite civil." Ras turned again toward her.
Ryan was shaking her head. "No. I won't. I don't know what is going on here, but you can't ask me to eat dinner with my prison guard, much less a Lycan!" Ryan exclaimed.
Ras was looking at her, although not seeing, but she nodded in understanding.
"You can let me go." Ryan said.
"I can't. None of us can now. You are as much a prisoner as we are. The entrance will not open again for a month." Ras said.
"What?!" Ryan stood and a new wave of dizziness made her sit again.
"Get some rest. I will bring you dinner later. I will explain your absence." Ras said, and left, closing the door again.
What was happening? Why was she here? Why was she prisoner? Why did he take her to begin with? If what Ras said was true, that they are all prisoners here, why?
So many questions, and yet anger filled her too. Why was she involved in all of this!? She had kept a low profile, had kept to herself, had been innocent, curious, but innocent. And now she was a prisoner and expected to dine with her captor.
She walked over to the door and tried the knob. Locked. Figures. Angry with herself, angry with her situation, angry at the Lycan.
She punched the wooden door hard, it cracked right down the middle, but otherwise did not budge. She could keep going. But then what? Break out into an unknown place? Only to not be able to escape wherever she was?
No she needed a plan. And she had to recover. Damn headache! That Lycan had hit her hard. She hit the door again and it splintered again and then turned to sit back on her cold stone bed.
The crack had echoed through the corridors as Ras was laying dinner on a large wooden table.
