AN: That will be what the house ends up looking like. I posted it here cause for some reason it's not showing up when I open this chapter...

I woke up and ate some breakfast before getting in the shower.

I can do this. I have to do this. I can't put it off any longer.

I leave the shower and change into a pair of black yoga pants and a black sports bra. I put a my shoes on and pick up a jacket before opening my portal and stepping in. Take me home. And home I go.

I step out of the portal and look at the ruins of our home. I have more control over my emotions and magic than I did then. I also know that James is still alive. Knowing that is what motivates me to fix up the house, or change it all together.

I walk up the pathway and use my magic to give life to the plants around the entire estate. Just like that I'm one step closer to my goal.

I walk up to the cottage. Most of it's gone by now, I turn what's left into something different. Once I get the front part done I step into the house and work on the main floor. I expand the inside so there's more room, the main floor will be all the necessities and the entertainment rooms.

I take a break after about two hours. I step into the back yard and the plants still growing. I make a bench to sit on and I just, admire the life around me.

I may not have the best memories here but in time we will make new ones. Better ones. I feel a pull and realize that Max must be calling. I open a portal and go to him.

"Hello little warrior." I say as I step into his bedroom. "Hey Y/N." he runs up to give me a hug.

"What are you doing today?" He asks me. I sit in one of the chairs by the window. "I finally returned to our home."

"How was it?" he asks.

"It was... different. I decided to renovate/remodel the cottage."

"Will it look the same?" "No. The only similarities may be the gardens. Other than that everything will be different. So far it's coming along just fine."

"Would you let me visit your new home?" he asks with hopeful eyes.

"You'd have to ask your parents before I can take you there." "Let's go ask them right now!" he takes my hand and runs in the direction of his parents.

"Mom! Dad!" we're almost down stairs when Maryse appears at the bottom of the stairs. She looks surprised to see me. "Y/N what are you doing here?"

"Max called so I came to visit." She looks at Max expectantly. "The necklace I gave him. It's how he's able to contact me. It also allows me to locate him, so I guess that's a bonus." I respond before Max can.

"Mom can I go with Y/N to see her house? Pleasepleasepleaseplease." Maryse looks at him then at me. "What are you planning?" I look at her with confusion.

"I'm not planning anything. I told Max that I'm fixing up my old house and he wanted to go see it." She looks at me suspiciously. "If it makes you more comfortable you can send another Shadowhunter with us. Someone you trust to look after Max."

"Alright. I want him back before sundown." I stick out my hand for her to shake. "Deal."

Time Skip

We step out of the portal and I lead Max and Thomas to the inside of the house.

"Wow." Max looks around the house in amazement. He takes off running to look at every room.

I hold Thomas back by the arm. "Let him explore on his own, he's a kid afterall. Plus I can pinpoint where he's at with the necklace. I walk through the house, fixing minor details. Thomas trails behind me the whole time.

I walk closer to the garden and smile.

Max is sitting under the apple tree, reading some type of book. On closer inspection I notice it's a memory book.

I sit on Max's left, Thomas on his right. "What have you got there?"

"I found it under the tree. It has pictures of a little boy." He shows me one of the boy sitting in this exact spot under an oak tree. "Is he your son?"

"Yes. He was almost your age in this one." "Do you think you'll find him?"

I pull Max in for a side hug. "Yes. I believe I'll find him."

Thomas mentions it's almost sundown. We walk back to the front of the house where I open up the portal for them to go through. I hug Max goodbye. I stay behind and go back inside the house. I lay on the couch and let my exhaustion take over.

That night I dream of chasing James in the gardens.

AN: This chapter was pretty short but I think it was great. I hope you enjoy the new chapter.
