We ran. They were right behind us. This was a familiar hallway. I always walk through here to get to Spanish. There were many doors around us, but we couldn't open them. All the rooms those doors led to we're filled with hidden hostages. If we entered one of the rooms, we could blow their cover. So Ashley and I kept running. Ashley. This is why I didn't want her to come. I knew if I got caught, it would be bad, and given my luck, that's exactly what happened. But she insisted. And I let her come. We turned another corner, dashed past the cafeteria, and bolted up the stairs. We were both starting to slow down, and needed some place to hide.
"Listen, they are going to catch up to us, you know that, right?" I told her. She nodded, a distressed look on her face. "And when they do, I'll fall back." This worried her even farther. They were getting closer.
"Jarrett," she protested "don't--"
"No. When I tell you, run." She nodded.
We looked back, they were only a few yards away. I looked at Ashley. She looked at me, and I nodded.
"Go" I said.
