Chapter 2
Jades POV
The next morning I made breakfast as usual, we were going to have eggs, omelets, bacon, and pancakes. I was going full out, partly because Alex was here, partly because for once in a long time, Mom and Dad were eating with us.
Jared came down and gave me a look, I knew he had seen the video I took and sent him. I thought he was going to do something totally rash and unlike him, but Dad came in before that so he had to settle on glares and scowls aimed my way.
"Something smells good." Dad looked at what I was making, "Those aren't your pancakes are they? Not the family famous, fair wining, totally awesome pancakes I remember from Christmas." He kissed my forehead; he seemed to realize Jared's anger because he gave him a funny look and went to get the book he was reading to settle on the couch.
Mom came down and tried to talk to Dad but he just waved her away. She tried again but he actually got the duct tape from our coffee table drawer and taped her mouth shut and kept reading. I had gotten my love for books from my dad who plans on writing one himself, he is just waiting for inspiration or so he says, I say it is because he is too busy with work.
Alex was the last one down, he had his eyes closed and stumbled into the lamp, which fell over. Jared and I were the only ones out of our PJ's because we were early risers; the other people in this family were, unfortunately, not.
Alex felt for the counter, when he found it he sat down, except he missed his target by a couple of inches and fell to his butt on the floor. Jared and I bursted into laughter which caused Dad and Mom to turn and look. Mom gasped and ran over to help 'her poor baby' up and into the chair. Meanwhile the rest of us were on the floor and shaking like we were having a spasm attack. Mom gave us all a glare, which didn't do anything.
I smell something burning then remember my pancakes. I quickly get up and grab the spatula and flipped them in time for them to only be slightly scorched. Sighing in relief I sat down on the spinny stool next to the griddle.
"I can't believe you almost burned my pancakes!" Alex screamed at me.
"Oh stop being such a girl." I say crossly. "And besides, I wouldn't have been laughing so much if you hadn't missed the stool on your way to sit."
"Both of you stop!" My mom tries to stop our fighting.
"Well maybe you should keep your 'laughing'," he made quotes around the word. "Under control." My mom put her hands up in defeat and walked away.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I throw back. "If you weren't such a dork I wouldn't have anything to laugh at."
"Oh I'm the dork? Who's the one who still sleeps with a blanket?"
"Yeah, even you are guilty of that one. Do you sleep with a comforter or sheets on your bed?"
"That's not what I meant a-"
"No! That’s exactly what you meant and you know it." I raise my arms in glory and satisfaction of my win. "Is the little baby who sleeps with a blanket hungry?"
He grumbled something I couldn't understand and sat down while I put out an assortment of breakfast foods on the table. I was the only person in the family that could cook. Elsa began teaching me after she gave up on Mom.
I went to the pantry and got out our old sippy cups. Mom kept everything we used, made, or touched including our baby stuff. I got into to Alex's bin and took out an old bib, nookie, and cup.
