Chapter 5
Jade's POV
"Please! I will do anything!" Alex whined stomping his feet and having a tantrum.
It has been a week since Mom and Dad left leaving me with a whole bunch of boys who acted like they were three.
"How old are you supposed to be?" I ask refusing to make him breakfast.
"Fine, but be ready to face the price." he called after me as I left to go read in my bedroom.
I decided to go for a run that always managed to make me feel better.
I got into my running gear and headed out the door. Gabe was in the huge pool lap swimming and Ian was in the hot tub reading about some Shakespeare play.
Gabe noticed me first when he came up to breathe. "Where are you going?"
"To run on a trail I found." I pointed to the woods that bordered their property.
He gave me a quizzical look before turning to Ian. "Yo mister English buff. Go with girly over here to the woods and keep her out of trouble."
"I don't need a babysitter!" I yelled at him and glared at Ian silently daring him to put his book down and get out of the bubbles.
He sighed and got up, stretching. "Good I was planning on working out anyway! Just wait out here, Jade."
He doggie eared his page and ran inside.
I screamed in frustration and threw my water bottle at the house.
"Temper much? Just wait for Ian he can take care of you. Don't want to meet a big bad wolf, little red riding hood." He motioned towards my red running shirt.
"Like there would be a wolf." I mumble picking up my water bottle and sitting down on a chair.
Ian comes out after a while and we start towards the trail.
"Nice day for a run." He says.
"Yep."
"Do you run often?'
"Yep."
He doesn't try to talk after that. I glance at him as we start jogging, he seems on edge, almost alert.
Probably nothing.
We continue on for a while in silence. It isn't awkward, but I feel like I should break it and start a conversation. "Do you run often?"
"Ya, actually I was in track all through high school." He smiles at the memory.
I totally forgot that he was five years older than me, already two years into college. He always acted on the verge of adulthood, but not quite there, kind of like an eighteen year old. He was actually the oldest with Jake a few months younger and Gabe a year younger along with Alex, though they were all in the same grade.
"So, are you in track?" Ian asks me, he picks up the pace slightly and I match, going slightly faster.
"No, I don't do sports, that's Alex's thing." I reply, Mom always said I should sign up, I never did.
"What's your thing?" He asked looking over at me. We had come to a clearing with a small pond and I was panting slightly. He was perfectly fine, darn boy!
"Uh..." I thought about it. I was not very good at art or music, I sucked at puzzles, Jared was amazing, the only thing that I could do that stood out was cook and I did not want to be known as the food girl. "I guess I am the girl."
He looked at me sadly and nodded. "Ya, I felt the same way with my little sisters, Aubry and Sarah. Only, you know, I'm a boy."
"You have siblings!" I don't know why that surprised me so much.
He shrugged.
We stood there for awhile, me resting and him daydreaming. I finally checked my watch, it was 1:00, I swear it was only 12:00 when we left.
"Hey, how far did we go?" I ask snapping Ian out of his trance.
"Uhh, a few miles?" He guessed scratching the back of his neck. "Couldn't have been that far."
"We have been out here for an hour." I bite my lip, slightly nervous. I don't know why that frightens me, if anything is out here I am sure that Ian would just charm it to death.
"Really? That short? I could stay out here for hours." He settles back down on his back and looks at the clouds. In the week I had been at Alex's house I had never seen Ian totally relax, even Gabe did sometimes, Alex and Zach lay around like they don't have to worry about anything in the world.
He must have felt me staring because he raised an eyebrow, "See-"
His eyes widened and all the sudden he tensed up again shooting from the ground and grabbing my arm. I hadn't heard or seen anything that would cause him to act like he got shot at, a rabbit had come by but that was it.
Ian ran as fast as he could, dragging me behind him down the path we had come from. My phone rang in my pocket but I was to busy flailing my arms to pick it up, I could tell it was Alex because the ringtone was Happy by Pharrel Williams. He said it described him perfectly, whatever.
Maybe ten seconds later, it felt like ten hours, Ian stopped causing me to run into him. I was confused until I heard a fierce growling and a big gray wolf came stalking towards us. I screamed and hid behind Ian, but another wolf came in behind us. For a second I wondered if it really was possible to die of fear. It could be, Jared would know and be able to tell me, if he were here.
'What would -' I couldn't finish my thought. Mainly because a familiarly looking black wolf, followed by more but he was the leader, came and looked like they were about to attack and stopped when they saw us.
Somewhat because Ian picked me up and slung me over his shoulder and ran full speed through the black wolf's pack. I basically hugged Ian's back burying my face in his sweaty shirt. Not one of my best moments.
Ian ran us home and didn't put me down until we were through the door. I barely noticed anything as I freaked out, but I could tell Jared wasn't there so it was only Alex and Ian helping me get myself together. They helped a lot, not!
I passed out after about five minutes of Alex yelling at me.

The chapter is finally here! I feel really bad because it has been three months! I hope that you like it and will forgive me. I don't know when I will be able to write more but hopefully soon because I really like doing it. I just need to get situated in my new house and all that stuff, thanks for understanding!
Here is a picture of Ian!
