Themes (Thumbs Up)

- Alex's narcissistic feminine side with a touch of OCDness without him being LGBT.

- Dwayne attempting to take on the role of father figure and/or acting like an uncle to the kids, but acting like a son to Lydia, and a brother to Penelope.

- Dwayne's obliviousness to cultural issues despite being unofficially adopted into a very Cuban family.

- Elena figuring out she likes girls.

- Elena figuring out more about the role regarding masculine and feminine roles, but moving into a masculine personality which has no problem with adding a feminine flare, like what her granny did with her quince outfit.

- Lydia having awesome abuela moments.

- Penelope representing how a woman can be strong, masculine, but still have feminine traits, and not be LGBT.

- Penelope's struggle with PTSD.

- Crossovers with any fandom I know where Elena deals with crushing a canon character from another series whether they reciprocate or not.

- Crossovers with Voltron: Legendary Defender where Lance is the grandson of Lydia, nephew of Penelope and the cousin of Elena and Alex

- OCs...

Pairings (Thumbs Up)

- Ben/Penelope – I liked this one because she found a guy who understood what it was like to have an LGBT family member, but to whom she would be fine with Elena being around. He's also a family man.

- Elena/OC

- Leslie/Lydia – I find them adorable, including the denial on Lydia's part.

Themes (Thumbs Down)

- Alex also being LGBT. I know there are people out there who claim that one out of five people are LGBT, but in reality only around 3 to 4% is. Alex's character is the type of character who people are to quick to label as LGBT. If he comes out in later seasons, my position may change on this one, but I prefer turning the stereotype on its head for this one.

Pairings (Thumbs Down)

- Dwayne paired up with guys. He's always seen with girls, and for playboy reasons. That, and he's not very bright.

- Dwayne paired up with Penelope. While this may change in later seasons, I actually like the idea of them having a brother relationship instead of a romantic one, as people think a girl can't be a friend with a guy.

- Elena paired with a male character. She's made her sexuality very clear.

- Lydia paired up with anyone but her husband and Dr. Leslie Berkowitz.

- Penelope paired with a female character. We've already got LGBT characters.
