Chapter 8: Blood on the Leaves

Part 4 — Jersey's POV

"I'm so hungry... what time is it?"

"Past nine."

"Where are the others?"

"Dead... or still hunting."

"You eat. I'll call Boss."

Silence followed.

Not the normal kind.

Not the "we're safe" kind.

This was the kind of silence that waits.

That listens.

That decides who lives next.

I stayed hidden, back pressed against the cold rock, counting my own heartbeat just to make sure I was still alive.

One minute.

Five.

Ten.

Thirty.

Nothing.

I peered inside.

Bodies.

Everywhere.

Not dead.

Sleeping.

Exactly how I planned.

And her.

Blades stood beneath the chains—no, not stood... swayed.

Her fingers trembled as she forced a small metal pin into the lock. Her hands—still bleeding, still torn open—slipped again and again.

"Shit..." she whispered, voice cracking.

Her tears mixed with sweat and blood, dripping down her chin.

For a second—

Just one second—

She didn't look like Blades.

She looked...

Lost.

I stepped out.

Fast.

Silent.

I raised a finger to my lips.

She froze.
