Mary, once known as Rosamund, spent a great deal of her childhood in an orphanage. Time after time, prospective adoptive parents would come, and time after time, she was not adopted. She knew that it was always the happy, friendly children who got adopted, but in a place like that, she found it difficult to be happy and friendly. She was bullied frequently, so it didn't take her long to learn to fight. She eventually made a friend, named Ajay, who was also constantly being bullied, and she taught him how to fight as well. Then, one day, some men came to the orphanage, saying that they wanted four children. Rosamund was not hopeful at first, but then she learned that these men were not looking for happy, friendly children. They were looking for tough, smart children with good hand-eye coordination. The men put all of the children through rigorous tests to make absolutely sure that they got the best. Rosamund proved herself to be one of the toughest and smartest with the best hand-eye coordination, along with Ajay, a bully named Alex, and a loner named Gabriel. These four children were then adopted and taken to a facility, where they were trained to be spies and assassins. It was a bleak, harsh environment, and Rosamund made her first kill when she was only sixteen. But soon, the four became close friends and came to think of each other as family, even Alex, who had used to bully Rosamund and Ajay. By the time they were young adults, they had convinced themselves that they were doing the right thing, killing evil people who should be killed. But, later in their adulthood, they gradually stopped caring who they killed, as long as they were paid well. Still, Rosamund never stopped wondering if there was a way out, if she could ever have a normal life with a husband and kids.
