Remembering The Unspeakable

I awoke gasping for air. Part of me felt as if it was just a dream, but the logical side of my mind told me what I witnessed was a repressed memory. I looked at Alvin and smiled even though the scent of rotting flesh and sulfur filled the air. He showed no signs of life as he stated in a voice that didn't even sound like his, "He knows what you did to his favorite witch. You're gonna pay for that!"

I slid away from him the best I could. My rapidly beating heart felt like it was about to explode. I shook my head and things went back to normal. At least as normal as things could be for us now.

It was around midnight when I had another flash back. This one was much more vivid and worse than the first.

It was about two in the afternoon when I woke up to the sound of crying. I was expecting to see Theodore being the one letting his emotions get the best of Jim as always, but to my dismay, it was Alvin this time. I looked at him and asked perplexedly, " What's wrong Al?"

The answer he retorted to me was unexpected and the actions he displayed weren't settling either. I seen a long, deep cut on Alvin's right arm that went all the way down to his left leg. "Simon...I'm so sorry." he sobbed momentarily.

"Sorry...for what Al?" I asked as I took my time to process the images I seen.

My grey eyes met his blue ones. Within them was a look of terror and regret. I did everything that I could to stop the bleeding. I spoke a few words in a foreign language that I didn't know I possessed the ability to speak. My words were soft and gradually became louder to a deafening crescendo.

I gently traced my hand across his body where the lasoration was and the open gaping wound on his body had instantly healed as if it'd never been there. I held Alvin close to me as he sobbed until he fell asleep.

My diliated eyes were meet by his worried crystal blue ones. The look that normally brought elation and emotional support had changed to a look of fear and dismay. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out why the look in his eyes had changed so drastically and so abruptly.

"What is it Alvin?" I asked him.

"Nothing...it's just." He hesitating momentarily, which is not like him. Normally, he never holds back with anything. Taking a deep and unsteady breath, I continued, "Just what Alvin?"

"You were crying just now, and I couldn't help but wonder, is everything ok Si?" He questioned.

I wasn't sure how to answer so I replied sheepishly, "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"

"Because me and Theo were saying your name for the past ten minutes and you never answered us." He elaborated to me in an almost condescending manner. Almost as if he assumed that I knew nothing at all.

I will admit, I was a little hurt and perplexed that I had been weeping. How come I hadn't noticed it? Maybe being in that place for however long the duration was did more to me psychologically than I had first anticipated.

I looked to Theodore for any sign of conformation to what Alvin had said. He sat with a blank look on his face. The once soft loving look on his face had been replaced with pain and agony. Just looking at his face, he had suffered the most trauma of the three of us. I made it a personal mission of mine to find out how to restore my lost memories.

The elderly couple that we were riding with stopped the car and the man looked back at us and stated "Okay, this is as far as I'm taking you boys unless you have money."

My brothers and I looked at each other and replied, "Um sir, we dont have any money."

The man retorted with annoyance in his voice, "Okay then get out."

We did as we were told and reluctantly thanked them for the ride as we began walking down the long, desolate stretch of road.

"So what now? We have nowhere to go." Theodore pointed out the painfully obvious.

I scanned our new environment. We were currently in a wooded area miles away from any sign of civilization. "I guess that we are going to have to sleep under the stars tonight guys." I explained in an airy tone.

"Okay." They both replied back with a hint of anger in their voices.
