I open the door to the principal's office. Wow it smells really good in here. Is that ocean breeze febreeze with a hint of strawberries? Nice.
The principal clears his throat to get my, spaced out person's, attention. I look over to him, sitting in a comfortable black chair, a nice polished wooden Oak desk, and his elbows on his desk with his hands linked up under his chin. His name plate reads Mr. Choi.
"Yo". I flash a peace sign, smiling with only my bottom teeth showing.
"Please sit down Miss Kim," he gestures for me to take a seat.
"K," I sit down making myself comfortable.
He clears his throat, scanning the papers in front of him. "It says here on your record that you got kicked out of your last school".
I shrug. "I know that".
He continues. "It says that you beat up a group of guy in two grades above you".
"I know," I nod lazily.
"And you have a bad reputation".
"Yup," I sigh.
"Rumours of gang affiliations. Being a leader of a gang," he looks at me seriously.
"Yup".
After a minute, he picks up a piece of paper incredulously. "But you have good grades, 100% attendance, quiet in class, doesn't talk back to your teachers, always takes notes, listens to the teachers when they're talking, secretly tutor students on their homework or upcoming exams/tests, and never got into fights before".
I stretch while sighing at the end. "Yup".
He puts the paper down, crossing his fingers together. "How can a student that sets a good example to other students get kicked out of school?"
"Because of the rumours".
Mr. Choi raises an eyebrow. "That's still no excuse for kicking you out".
I scoot up on my seat, going to explain the deal as is. "Okay, here's the deal. There were 5 guys-"
"I thought there was 12?"
I huff. "See? This is exactly what I'm talking about. Rumours. And don't interrupt me, it's rude," I continue with my story. "The Seniors were picking on a student from my class. So I confronted them and told them to back off. And because of the rumours that were floating around, some backed away. One of them didn't so I used my technique".
He sighs. "I'm afraid to ask so just tell me what generally happened".
With a huff, I cross my arms. "Fine. I incapacitated one guy and the other just ran away. I only helped the poor boy. I'm not very keen on violence. Also, I wasn't kicked out, I had to move because my mom set up a new shop here".
Principal Choi nods. "So all the stuff they say about you is wrong?"
I shrug. "Pretty much".
The principal picks up a half sheet of paper, handing it over to me. "Here's the list of all your classes. It also has your locker number, your locker combination as well as your lunch number. Well good luck-I mean have a great day Miss Kim".
