It was Saturday morning; Aaron was going to arrive in less than an hour. Needless to say, Rain was in a panic about the stupidest thing ever... What should she wear on a date? Having never been in this situation before, she didn't know what was appropriate. When it came to school, she usually just threw something on and called it good. She sighed heavily before leaving to go enlist the help of the only person in the house who would understand: her sister. Her sister was a year older than her, and most of the time they didn't get along, but they did have their moments; so Rain gathered her courage and hoped for the best.
"Hey, Samantha?" Rain knocked lightly on her sister's door.
"What's up, kid?" Samantha called from inside.
"Um, I need your help with something." Rain admitted.
Samantha's door swung open. "Am I dreaming? Are you sick? You're actually asking me for help." She leaned casually against the door frame. "What's so important that the high and might Rain would need help?"
Rain looked down at her feet. "I need help choosing an outfit for a date. He's going to be here in less than an hour and I don't know what to wear."
There was complete silence. A few moments passed. The silence dragged on. Rain looked up at her sister's face to find her mouth gaping open and an expression of pure shock.
"Samantha? Are you ok?" Rain ventured.
"Are you fucking kidding me! You have a date!? Why didn't I know about this?!" Samantha was ecstatic. "You should've told me sooner! Now I've got less than an hour to work on you." Rain didn't have time to ask what she meant because she was thrust into her sister's room and sat down on a bench.
"Ok, first thing we need to do is find you some clothes. I know for a fact that you don't own anything that qualifies as 'cute'. Luckily, we're about the same size, so you can borrow some of mine." Samantha thrust her closet doors open and Rain gasped at the overwhelming amount of clothes she had.
"Let's see here," Samantha said. "A skirt would look really cute. It's warm outside, too, so it'll be perfect." She yanked a black skirt out and tossed it to Rain. "Put that on." Rain could tell it wasn't a request. She quickly stripped and slid it up. It fit perfectly and fell to about mid-thigh.
"Now to find you a top." Samantha picked through her closet for a few minutes. "Oohh, this one's cute. Try it on." She watched as Rain pulled the top over her head and tugged it down.
It was dark grey with black and gold roses and vines crawling up the side of it. She handed Rain a pair of black high-top sneakers. "You look fabulous!" Samantha clapped her hands together. "Now it's time to do your make-up!"
Rain froze. "Ah, there's no need for you to go that far for me; I'm really thankful for your help with my outfit."
"No no no, I insist. Now sit back down and I'll go get my make-up case." Samantha left the room in a hurry.
Rain sighed. I guess I should be thankful that we're getting along. I'm surprised she even agreed to help me. Samantha came trotting back into the room with a black case.
"Ok Rain, close your eyes and don't open them until I tell you to. Got it?" Samantha winked at her.
Rain sighed softly and did as she instructed. For the next twenty minutes, Rain's face was assaulted with powders and brushes. A spiky brush running through her eyelashes, a soft brush tickling her cheeks, a smooth pad rubbing her eyelids, lipstick being applied, something that felt like a colored pencil coloring over her eyebrows, and a cool liquid pen drawing a thin line just above her eyelashes.
