Sean's POV
The laughter wasn't the sound of friends; rather frenzied hyenas. Their voices floated through the hallway without apparent end, playing like a track that looped back to the start over and over with seamless ease. I closed my eyes only to see theirs burning through the black, full of judgement, intrigue.
He hadn't meant to do it; I could tell by the look of mild shock on his face, his complexion stained pink.
I dared an upward glance into his mahogany eyes, richer than soil; my heart pounded so hard in my throat I almost feared it threatened to break free.
I felt my cheeks flush so hot you could cook a three course meal on them as he stared back at me, an awkward smirk twitching at the corners of his mouth, and my stomach felt heavy.
'Oh god. What the fuck is happening to me?'Earlier...
Mark's POV
The dawn sent shimmering rays over the placid field beyond the window, bestowing a golden glow upon each wand of grass. Sunlight shone in under the door like a ghoul's grin; a sinner in the new morning.
Just like me.
The bed was warm, the draught cold, yet even so I swung my feet outward into the chill.• • •
Sean's POV
Today the daylight was particularly vivid, casting the overhead birds into dark shadows against the pale sky. Their wings swept back and forth, hugging the air as they drifted on indiscernible thermals. Wisps of white clouds hung unmoving, so thin they appeared stray brush marks on azure canvas, and the sun was suspended like an impossibly perfect cut-out; a ball of fire behind the heavens.
The laces of my shoes trailed on the ground, over-long and frayed; with each step I watched them flop in their random pattern, altering each footfall just a little to watch the effect. I gazed down absentmindedly at my dusty canvas sneakers as they took careless steps across the glossy tiles of the school building, my mind seized by a fatigued stupor.

That's all I'd been able to think about.
He barely knew me.
For all I knew, he hated me.Sean's POV
But those deep pools of rich hickory seized the depth of a thousand untold stories, built of raw emotion; the sweetness of Puccini Bomboni chocolate and the bitterness of strong coffee swirled into one. The ebony-pigmented orbs glowed with humour and playfulness that never seemed to escape them; when he smiled, his eyes reflected the light, illuminating the soft strands of caramel woven between the rich browns and blacks.Mark's POV
But those indigo darts generated a feeling of being pulled into a lake of emotion, the storm behind his eyes; clouds of grey and blue threatened floods, pupils dilated passion, eyelashes catching the raindrops. It was as though the myriad of blues had swirled together to form a whirlpool radiating the impishness within. Their hue was striking yet soft, the perfect balance; the colour of a rounded water droplet on an azure aster.Mark & Sean's POV
The lines on his face etched a story of happiness.
Yet, nevertheless, his eyes possessed upset; a melancholic veil cloaking their mischievous twinkle.Something... something big weighed on them.
I couldn't get them off my mind.
Mark's POV
A flash of green danced before my line of vision and I stumbled backward as a sudden weight struck my chest, my mind returning to the present.
Someone had walked into me.
I blindly extended my hand, winded from the unanticipated collision, attempting to assist whoever was before me in regaining their balance. I took a step forward, the sole of my shoe sliding across the flimsy plastic of an overlong shoelace as I did so, and I skidded further across the glossy tiles of the building. The world rushed by in a blur as I fell and I braced myself for impact.Mark & Sean's POV
'You freaking idiot. Why weren't you paying attention? Why weren't you watching where you were going?'
But I drew in a sharp breath and prepared for the inevitable.
