I'm probably not going to finish this so I wanted to publish the last chapter that I had written in advance. I just wanted to share it. It may not make sense but I hope that you enjoy.
Zoe's ship landed with a thud against the hard ground.
She pushed her way to the front of the crowd gathering at the door to leave. Zoe watched through amazed eyes as she saw sunlight trickle in as the platform sink to the ground.
Everyone came out slowly, feeling the warmth of their sun hit their skin and the feel of the hard dirt under their feet.
Zoe took in a slow and long breath, as she felt the people pushing past her to get out. She kept her eyes sealed shut, letting the warm wind flood over her. Along with the sounds of animals in the forest and the splash of water as fish jumped around in a fright of their first sighting of people ever.
She opened one eye, and then the other, letting the bright colors of the world come out to her. But then, she saw something in the corner of her eye.
It was a space pod.
The lights flashed with a yellow glow and as Zoe approached the door slowly swung open.
She approached cautiously and went over to the open door, looking in. She noticed a small square-like object in the back, placed on a seat crafted with a simple but yet firm material.
Zoe was stumped. She has never seen such things. Normal things didn't look like that. She had seen other objects that looked similar to that, but nothing the same. Zoe was almost certain that this book was a journal and the pen that was on the outside of the casing was a calligraphy pen, she was almost sure of it. Her teachers talked about them, but none owned one.
For there to be a pen here, these items must have been very old. All of the calligraphy pens' ink had dryed up ages ago. The journals had all been filled up and the only few notebooks left were more expensive than anything.
Zoe slowly went into the pod, letting her hand guide her as she shut her eyes tight until she then felt the journal. She grasped it and pulled it out, stepping back into the sunshine before she loosened her eyelids.
Then there was a sound of a wind brushing past her. Zoe looked over her shoulder and saw the faint blue outline of her friend.
Zoe, what is it?
I don't know Annette. Should we tell everyone?
They already know. They're watching you right now, you know! Zoe looked up, flustered. Annette was right. They were all watching her.
What should I do, Annette?
Read it, of course! What are you so scared of! No one is going to laugh at you or whatever, this is very serious stuff, and they know it too!
Fine.
Zoe flipped past the smooth cover of the journal. She had the vague notion that it wasn't paper, but that didn't bother her right now.
On the first page it read in faded script:
THE JOURNAL OF ANNA O. JONES
Zoe ran her hand over the writing and the ink smudged, as if it had been freshly written, odd.
She pushed that thought away and went onto the next page to see a journal entry. At the top it read: DAY 1.
Intrigued, Zoe continued reading, brushing her hand against the text from time to time to see if the ink would smudge, which it did. She found this odd but kept on reading.
I am scared for life, but I do not fear death. I know it is coming and when it hits, it will be strong like a wave, and nothing will be able to stop it when it crashes over everyone, everything, and all of humanity.
All I want is that whoever finds this remembers what it is like to have hope. Waiting endless nights for your family to come home when they probably won't. Hope is a passion. A love. A need. A want that is so strong that it is always there, even if you think it is not.
For whoever finds this, remember hope. This is what will guide you when there is only darkness. A darkness so dark that it seems as if it will never come back to light. But do not fear.
Please remember this:
Never lose hope. Never lose faith. Never lose love.
