Chapter 11 - Swim under
(At the X Factor rehearsal)
We walked into a large room with carpet, it was dimly lit and there was several microphones, and on the far end of the room there was a single, solitary piano. I played some piano, because I had a piano class at school but I'd never seen a piano this big and amazing, and it had this microphone hanging down from the ceiling right in front of it. So awesome.
"Alright, Harry's finally here. You guys ready to rehearse?" asked a man with dark hair and a stubble, glasses and a V neck. He must have been their singing coach or something. Not that dark hair, a stubble, glasses and V neck give off the vibe of a vocal coach. It's just you know, we're in a rehearsal room and there's a microphone and he's treating the boys very- whatever, I don't judge people.
"This is Adam. He's our mentor, and he's also everyone else's vocal mentor here." Harry whispered.
"Gonna introduce me, Harry?" he asked, raising an eyebrow curiously.
"Yeah, this is Addy." Harry said.
"Oh, SHE'S Addy! Wow, I've heard so-"
"ANYWAY, I was wondering… she's gonna stay with us at the X factor house for awhile. Is-is that okay?" asked Harry, looking away nervously.
"Whoa whoa whoa Harry, you know the rules. Only contestants are allowed in the X Factor house."
"But she's my sister!!" Harry pleaded, desperately. Adam gave him a straight face and crossed his arms.
"Really? That's your sister? The girl the boys have been telling me you've got a massive crush on and have been talking about non-stop?" he mocked bluntly. Harry blushed shyly and gave an angry look to the boys who were holding back their laughter.
"Okay first of all, shut up. ADAM! You've GOT to let her stay… She's homeless!" Harry lied.
"She's wearing high waisted shorts and a crop top that still has the price tag on it, you expect me to believe she's homeless?" Adam said, looking at me suspiciously. Shit, I guess I forgot tot take off the price tag. I quickly ripped it off, shaking my head embarrassingly.
"Please mate… Just let her stay with us for a while. She just got in a car accident." Harry said quietly, leaning closer to Adam.
"That true?" he said, looking towards me. I nodded and pushed my hair to the side, revealing the large cut I had got in the accident. Adam looked down and let out a sigh.
"Fine. I won't tell anybody that she's staying here. But if the wrong person finds out, it's your ass on the line." he said, giving in. God Harry is so fucking manipulative. Using my accident as an excuse? That was evilly brilliant.
The boys all got into a small enclosed room with glass windows surrounding them, it had microphones and directly outside was a desk of some sort with bunch of buttons, knobs and switches. It looked like a studio or some place where they'd do a sound check.
"Alright, so for the first show, you guys and the judges agreed on Viva La Vida, right?" Adam asked, talking into a microphone that the boys could hear from inside the room. They all nodded.
"Right, so let's practice that. Liam, you start. Then Zayn, then Niall then all of you. Just like we planned, got it?"
I saw Harry shoot me a thumbs up before they began singing.
~Flashback~
"Look at the stars, look how they shine for you… And all the things that you do." Harry sang, holding out a long note on 'you'. We laid together on our backs in the sand which was damp beneath us, as snow melted from our body heat. The air was dry and the sky was grey but nonetheless the sun still shined faintly through cracks in the clouds, sending beams of light down to us.
