With a huff, I seated myself on the sofa, slumping down to place my head between my knees. My wet hair dripped on the floor, leaving water droplets on the carpeted floor. I'd had my shower and now I just wanted to sleep. As I stared down at the floor, I replayed this morning's events, trying to file them into my brain. My eyes fluttered closed as I sat deep in the world of my brain. The baking session this morning tumbled back to me, and a small grin crept it's way onto my lips, butterflies fluttering in my stomach. Then they dropped, as I remembered the way Niall's face clouded over when I called him names. After all he'd done, I'd just given him disrespect mixed with anger. "That was smart wasn't it, Carol? ", I thought to myself, as guilt bubbled up inside me. I groaned at the thought.
Tap, Tap.
I lifted my head, a frown etched on my face, at the tapping on the window.
Is it, no, it can't be. I squinted my grey eyes to get a better view of the mysterious, yet not so mysterious person outside.
It is.
Grunting quietly, yet slightly surprised by the butterflies in my stomach emerging, I wrapped my hair into a towel, turban style, and dragged my slipper covered feet to the door, waiting slightly to annoy him a little. With a smirk on my face, I slipped open the door, and there stood the stranger.
"Back so quick. Wait, you didn't even wait half an hour." I said, slightly pleased with myself for being a successful annoyer. His cheeks flushed a light pink. Awww.
"Listen, can I come in?" Niall asked, slightly embarrassed. I nodded slightly, moving away from the door to let him in. I was slightly taken aback by his awkward encounter, but all that went flying out the window the moment his arm brushed my naked arm, sending shock-waves to my entire body. He stalked down the hall and sat down on the loveseat. I placed myself next to him, leaving a small gap between us, and raised my eyebrow, waiting for an explanation. He ran a hand through his brown hair before turning to me, his eyes looking deep into nothing. "Um, Carol... I um, wanted to apologize for pushing you to stay. I now understand that you just wanted to come to your own home, and it would slightly be awkward if, you know..." he stumbled, a pink tinge to his cheeks. A small smile made it's way to my lips and I nodded.
"No, I should apologize. I was so rude after all you did for me. Forgive me please." I lifted my eyes and my gaze locked with his. His eyes brightened at that and I was suddenly lost in his blue orbs. My eyes flicked to his lips and then back up again to his eyes, surprising me. But, being the crazy person I am, I cleared my throat, tearing my eyes away from his. He smiled slightly.
"Friends?" he inquired, lifting his hand up. I grinned, nodding.
"Friends." I placed my hand in his, shaking it slightly, as if we were making an agreement. I couldn't help but light up inside as his fingers wrapped around mine, lingering longer than necessary.
"Your house seems quite warm. I'm guessing you found the thermostat?" Niall asked me, cocking an eyebrow, as my ears tinged pink with embarrassment.
"Um...about that..." I stumbled.
