I learn what the trial is

BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. I rolled over on my bed and turned my alarm clock off. Rubbing my tired, dark brown eyes, I slowly got out of bed with my body protesting for me to lay back down. Today was the last day before the big trial to see who Kronos would maybe make demigods out of. I was super nervous. I wanted to go back to bed and pretend like none of this was happening. Some of us had already been killed in the first few tests. The rest of us would be killed tomorrow except for the last boy and girl alive.

I walked into my bathroom and splashed some water on my face. I hadn't gotten any sleep last night. I was up all night thinking about the trial. I dried my face off with a towel, then brushed my teeth. I went to my small wooden dresser and pulled out some clothes. I put on black yoga pants, a white v-neck tee, a black sports jacket, and white converse. We are only allowed to wear three colors: black, white, and grey. I went back into my bathroom and brushed my long, straight, brown, caramel-streaked hair.

I went back out into my room and looked at myself in the full length mirror. I looked as though I usually do. Depressed. Turning out the lights, I walked out of my room into the grey hallway, passing white doors that hid the other girls' rooms. I met up with my friend, Emily, at the elevator at the end of the hallway.

"Hey," she said as we stepped into the empty, metal elevator. "Are you ready for preparation?"
"Honestly, no," I replied nervously.
"You don't have anything to worry about it. You are one of the best fighters here," she said trying to cheer me up. "I'll probably be one of the first ones to die in the trial."
"You don't know that. We don't even know what the trial is yet," I replied reassuringly.
"That makes this whole thing even scarier" Emily replied with tears silently spilling out of her green eyes.
I hugged her tightly, my eyes watering and said,"Hey don't worry. Everything is going to be okay. You'll be fine."
She sniffled and said,"The thought of dying really scares me, Hayley."
"I know. It scares me, too. Even if we die, then we don't have to deal with Kronos anymore. We'll be able to see our parents again", I said, a tear rolling down my cheek. We hugged for a little longer, then released each other when the doors revealed the main floor. Emily and I have really grown on each other. We have been best friends since we met each other on the first day of training. I don't know what I would do without her. When Kronos explained that not everyone would make it out of the big trial, I ran up to my room and cried. I couldn't imagine not having Emily by my side.

We walked side by side into the quiet cafeteria to get breakfast. I got in line and grabbed a tan tray with Emily mimicking my actions. Shuffling up to the old lunch lady, I told her what I wanted. I got a breakfast sandwich that had sausage, scrambled eggs, and cheese between a biscuit and two hash browns. Emily got fluffy waffles and scrambled eggs with syrup and butter on the side.

We sat down at a table for three next to Zach, the only guy in our little three-friended group. He smiled at us with twinkling green eyes and said, "Sup ladies. Are you ready for preparation?"
"No", I replied anxiously.
"Don't worry about it. You'll do fine. How about you, Em?" he said
"I'm so nervous I might puke", she replied.
"You gals need to relax. It's just preparation", Zach said reassuringly.
"Preparation for the big trial that we are all going to die in", I snapped back. "How are you being so optimistic about this?" Zach wasn't paying attention and threw a grape at my face. I gave him a glare.

"It was supposed to go in your mouth! It's not my fault if you can't catch food with it!" he said. I took a grape and fired it back at him. It landed in his sandy hair. I laughed as he scrambled to get it out and fired another one at me. We kept firing grapes at each other, trying to catch them in our mouths.

"Guys!" Emily said, putting a stop to our grape war. "He's here!" We turned in the direction Emily was looking. The person who walked in was none other than Kronos himself. He evilly smiled, looking at each and every one of us in our eyes as he passed us. He stopped at the front of the cafeteria.

"Good morning, children. As you may know, today we are starting preparation for the big trial. Before we get started, I am going to explain to you what the trial is. It is your responsibility to remember what I am about to say. You will be put inside of an arena. In the arena, there will be hellhounds, dracenae, a cyclops, and the Neamani Lion(I don't know if I spelled it right). I will provide you with a start of food and water. When you run out of it, you're on your own for finding more. You will be allowed one weapon of your choice. The task is simple for passing this trial: be the last boy or girl alive. If you can do that, you will become a demigod. If you can't, then you will die trying. There are no rules. You can kill each other, you can team up with people, you can  try to tame a monster, etc. I don't care. If there are three people left and you won't choose who dies, I will choose for you. Everyone got it? I'm not repeating myself," he finished. We all nodded our heads.

"Good. Let us begin the preparation", he said with his evil smile.
