The Districts have long since been the "cause" of the Apocalypse.
Eat. Sleep. Kill Zombie. Repeat.
A normal day for the residents of these said districts.
Three days out of the year are not so normal...
We call these The Reaping.
Twenty-Four boys and girls are chosen from the districts and given a chance.
A chance to survive in the rural lands called The Arena.
There's a choice.
Survive six months for the chance at the cure and live free afterwards.
Or...
Fight to survive in a world full of chaos and have the chance to get the cure for yourself and five others.
There's one stipulation.
The choice isn't yours.
