Jughead still and always had been their everything. It hadn’t been until he had come back for them to realize how much he meant to them. How much he had done for them. And though there was a burning hole in Y/N’s heart for doing such a thing to Archie she couldn’t help yet feel that she made the best choice that she could have for Sammy.

Now they no longer had to love God more than they did themselves, now they no longer had to secretly roam town together. Y/N and Jughead could be together and yet now that spark… That driving force was no longer there.

The fun of it had faded.

The raven-haired man showed up on his motorcycle at the park, or even on Sunday mornings at church. They would go grocery shopping together, and forest walking together. Y/N held the best memories with Jughead.

Jughead knew that it was probably the town’s hate that was ruining their relationship. Everyone says that it’s wrong for Y/N to get with another man after two years of being divorced… Although it was probably was the fact that she was northside and him a Southsider. Nonetheless, word got out that he was the notorious serpent king.

Y/N couldn’t believe that she fell in love with a gang leader… She had known all her life for gang leaders to be mean, rough and manipulative people. And yet her beanie-wearing clad was none of those things. He only wanted what was best for her and his gang. The northside drilled in her brain that everyone on the southside is dangerous.

The most dangerous thing she and Jughead had done was when he first took her on his motorcycle and went over eighty miles per hour trying to show off and at the same time have a little fun.

He had shown her things… Told her things that no one had ever told her before. Done things with her that no one on the northside would ever dare do. Even if SweetWater River is freezing, even if motorcycles are dangerous. Jughead knew that they would only live once and that’s how he won over Y/N’s heart.

Things now were slow no doubt about that… Neither of them wanted to make the first move on each other. They didn’t want to end up how they had ended once again. Sammy could tell that his mother was struggling and he could tell their gazing of each other wasn’t accidental.

He was six years old now, well smart enough to know what was going on between the two adults… So he had to put on an extra pouty face on Christmas Eve to win them over.

“I know it’s our first Christmas without Archie,” Y/N sighed glancing down at her son who’s sadness spread onto herself.
It was true that this had been their first Christmas without Archie however Sammy was trying to act more sad so that Jughead would come around.

“Get up let’s go,” Jughead exclaimed leaping up from his chair and slipping on his jacket with ease. “We’re getting out here,”

“Where?” Y/N questioned confused through a sigh. “I mean won’t every place be packed on Christmas Eve-”

“Meet me in the car when you’re dressed warm and have socks… I have a plan,” He ordered grabbing the keys and disappearing out the door.

Around thirty minutes later they had arrived at none other than the ice skating rink. People skating all over the ice, kids screaming and lights beaming. It truly was beautiful, however, one thing was the problem.

“Don’t you think Sammy’s a little too young to skate-”

“Nonsense… But wait you can skate?” Jughead questioned through a smirk even though he already knew the answer.

“Yeah, so I guess I could probably teach him,” She glanced down at her son who gripped her hand firmly giving a reassuring nod.

Then all of a sudden they were on the ice. Y/N was wasting so much time trying to teach Sammy how to skate until Jughead came back and quickly brushed her hands away. “I got it… You should go have fun too,” And she didn’t even protest knowing fully well that this used to be her favorite thing.

Suddenly Y/N felt like it was old times, skating for hours upon hours on end… Though she couldn’t help yet get distracted by the sight of Jughead and Sammy skating side by side... His small hand clamped in Jugheads bigger one’s giggles filled the air. Jughead had to keep him from falling and crashing into the ice many times but it was… It was-

It was perfect, everything was perfect.

“LOOK MOWMMY LOOK JUWG!” Sammy yelled across the whole rink earning many stares and it was as though the two adults couldn’t seem to care one bit.

The young seven-year-old was off that wall and skating like a champ with everyone around him. He was in the middle gliding across the ice. He was free with the wind in his hair. Y/N couldn’t help yet make many memories of this crazy and fun night… Their first Christmas Eve where they couldn’t be found at home but instead having actual fun and that’s what made it so special… Because not only was it their first Christmas Eve without Archie but also the first one where they truly were free and alive.

Y/N began to snap many pictures of Sammy skating freely across the rink, almost falling at one point until Jughead, of course, caught up and caught her.

“Thanks,” She whispered sheepishly. “Sammy really is enjoying himself,”

“Well I mean that is my job as your friend right?” He questioned through a grin taking both of her hands in his and skating backward.

Suddenly they were whipping through the crowds of people, weaving in and out and going faster than what Y/N thought was possible with all these people. It was a surprise to Y/N what a good skater Jughead was but not a surprise at how good he had been with Sammy.

Somone from behind had shoved Jughead so that him and Y/N’s bodies were close… So close that their chests were touching along with their noses. “Sorry,” Jughead apologized their lips touching as he tried to move away from her through their skates were entangled together.

“It’s ok,” And though Y/N hated to admit that she had never been somone to make the first move nonetheless do something this daring. “It was an accident,”

“Yeah,” He reassured through blush as he went to go skate away and find Sammy although Y/N didn’t want to let her mind take over and do something that she could regret, it didn’t look too good.

Then she had.

Her arms found a way around his neck, the whole world disappearing around them both as their lips gradually smashed onto one another like two perfectly fitting puzzle pieces that were desperately waiting to find one another.

Their lips didn’t part for what felt like minutes yet only ended up being a couple of seconds, although once it did and their eyes locked they realized the reality of the situation.
