I struggle to find the light switch. My hand swipes against the wall desperately. I begin to move my left hand slowly to the right looking for the door. Suddenly, the black that surrounds me deepens. The little I could sense, fades. I whipped my head up looking for light above or around me. 'If I am falling,' I reasoned, 'there should be light.' Nothing. Not a speck to help illuminate the darkness. I lower myself onto my hands and knees. I cautiously crawl forward, periodically checking over my shoulder. I continue on for what must have been at least an twenty minuets. Nothing yet. I decide to take a break. Curling up on my side, I rest my ear to the ground. After a few moments I am aware of a soft pulsing being emitted from the black. I jump slightly at the feeling it sends through my body. I feel it rush from my toes, up my spine, coming to a stop in the base of my head, causing me to shiver. I lay my head back down after the initial jolt. I close my eyes listing to the heart beat of the ground. The ground was warm and plush, similar to soil. It was peaceful here. I didn't know why I wanted to leave it. I settled in and found myself drifting in and out of sleep. Finally I passed out completely. My sleep was restless, being periodically woken by weird dreams. The first time all I heard was a metallic beeping. It seemed to be surrounding me, the volume cranking louder as the beeps drew closer together. It finally became one continuous beep. I clamped my hands over my ears hoping it would cancel out the noise. I sat up then, opening my eyes to the blackness once more. Sighing, I rolled onto my side, trying to clear my mind for sleep. My second dream took me back to my elementary school. I was in my fifth grade class room, sat at my desk. My teacher at the time, Mrs. Bahr, stood at the white board explaining how to convert decimals into fractions. I felt something touch my arm, shaking it. Looking down I saw nothing. Turning back to the board the whole room started to shake.
"Earthquake!" a girl, I believe her name was Julia, shouted. Ducking under our desks, the class coward 'till it was over. I awoke again after that, the dream giving me chills.
I floated back into sleep once again. This time the dream changed. I heard a woman's voice speaking quietly to what sounded like my mother.
"She should be awake soon." the woman's voice mumbled. I heard the familiar sound of footsteps and a door opening and clicking closed.
I feel a pinch in my arm. I am still encased in the darkness but it seems less friendly now, more menacing. I groan and move onto my left side. I wince as something rough presses into my rib cage. I shimmy around in a new found heat trying to escape the offending object I'm laying on. I sit up and immedeatly I feel pressure on my eyes, ears, and mind. I have to lay back down to avoid the onslaught of nausea brought on by sitting up right. The darkness still surrounds me but it's confused now. Why is it so unkind and repellant? It's not like the calming black of my dreams. It's more... threatening. It's funny, this is the first time throughout this whole ordeal that I have ever felt in danger. I open my eyes now. And I'm met by more of the menacing, metallic black. I blink a few times, wanting to go back to where ever I previously was.
"Oh thank God! Camron! Hugo! Get a nurse! Camron's awake" I jump at the voice, startled by this new development.
"Mom?" I whispered meakly.
"Oh yes honey! Thank God you're alright! Does anything hurt? Head? Arms? Legs? Fingers, toes, ears, eyes?" My mother asked questions at a rapid pace before I heard a creaking noise. I felt like I had heard it a million times before, but I couldn't place where. I tried to blink a couple more times trying to improve my impared eye sight.
"Mom? Why can't I see? What's going on?"
"Oh Cam..."
"Mom what happened?" My voice rising in panic.
"It's going to be alri-" she was cut short by the sound of a mans voice, my fathers voice I think, from my right side sigh in either defeate or exasperation, which one I don't know.
"Let the nurse tell her. It will be easier to understand and maybe a bit easier for all of us."
"Hugo don't be like that we have to stay strong for her." My mother whisper-yelled. I wonder why I could tell it was mom but not him. I sat quiet though the whole exchange, straining to listen to their mumbled conversation over me. I stretched out my hand until I found the collar of someone's shirt. I pulled them closer and found my dad's face next to mine, the smell of after shave and the stubble on his jawline rubbing against my face proved it.
"Daddy what's wrong?"I asked hesitantly.
"My little girl" he mumbled into my hair, "Oh my sweet innocent little girl." I tried to prepare myself for what ever he was going to tell me next.
"Dad, what's happened?" Something slammed in the back round at this point drowning out his words. A new sharp voice came into focus rattling my perspective.
"Camron," the new voice said. "what do you remeber? Can you see any thing?" Upon the request of the voice, who I am assuming is a woman, I try once more to open my eyes. I feel my lids lift but no image is there.
"No." I croaked, "I can't see any thing. "
"And what do you remember?" the woman asks again.
I search my brain for anything that might have happened to have me land in the hospital. It didn't take me that long to find the memory she was probably looking for.
~*~*~*~* Flashback ~*~*~*~*~*~
The last thing I remember was the drivers face. Pale in contrast to his rich eyes. The whole world was tinged a sharp red. The unnatural coloring though could do nothing to mare this mans beauty. I wondered 'Was he an angel. My angel? He certainly looked like one. I hope he's mine.' I giggled to myself. 'But that means I'm dying.' something inside of me huffed. The face beside the angels was one with hypnotizingly blue eyes. He to was pale but his skin held a pink undertone, making his face flush with what I assumed to be worry.
"Zayn we need to call nine nine nine now!" Blue eyes commanded. "The glass! Look at the glass! She needs help! Mate how did this happen? Why did this happen?
"Beep beep beep. We're sorry the number you are trying to call cannot be reached. Please hang up and try again.", the phone in the angels hand blared.
"Ni, it's not working!" the angel rushed in an accent.
'Definitely not American.' I giggled again.
"Um, uh uh..... I think it's nine one one here!" Blue eyes' voice sounded different. Still foreign, just more enticing.
"You sure?"
"No! But hurry try it! She's could dying!" Their accents got thicker the longer they talked. The world was starting to get darker, the red slowly being replaced by black. The last thing I remember is Blue Eyes looking down at me, mumbling while tears streamed down his face. Squeezing his hand, I felt myself fall limp.
~*~*~*~* End of flashback *~*~*~*~*
"Yes. I think I remeber." I mummbled.
"Okay." She said. "Well, we are going to do some tests okay? Some of these we are going to need you for. Okay, now can you see anything in front of your eyes, light, different shades of color or is it al darkness?"
"Umm I can see the light on through my eyelids. It looks kinda like when you close your eyes when you look into light. Why are you asking me all of these questions?"
"Well," She started tentatively. "We'll need to run some more tests but until then, because of this crash, if your eyesight doesn't return, you will be classified as legaly blind."
