Chapter 5
A fire-breather swooped over Kyle's face and landed softly on the bed. It was a young Liveling and had yet to learn the ways of the world.
Maybe that was why it had landed on unknown territory.
It snorted, fumes flailing out of its snout. The heat woke up Jax who promptly fell off her bed.
The thud! woke up Kyle. For a moment he was disoriented. Where the hell am I? And why is there a dragon on my bed?
And then his memory slowly set in. Dragons - Academy - Old Man - Lorcan - Sleep. Sleep! For how long had he slept? Here was no way to tell with the curtains drawn together, but it seemed to be quite a while.
"Jax?" He prodded her still body with a toe. What had happened now? Had she fainted?
"Nhnjbi." Jackie rolled over and let out a snore.
She was sleeping! That conniving, little—!
"What? I'm sorry I didn't quite get that." He prodded her again, this time with his whole foot.
"Lemme sleep.."
"Nope." Kyle said cheerfully. "If you wake me up, then you have to get up as well. That's only fair after all."
"Go away.." She moaned and swatted at his leg.
"Jacqueline Azzará you get up right now! There is a dragon waiting to smother you with its flames!"
No response.
Kyle sighed. Jax could be so stubborn sometimes. Wonder where she got that from...
He tried tickling her before he remembered she didn't actually get tickled. His reward was a kick in the face.
"Well I suppose I deserved that for being so stupid.." Kyle said, ruefully rubbing the side of his face.
There was only one thing left to do.... "THERE IS FOOD AND YOU SHALL NOT GET ANY OF IT!" And then he ran for his life.
"Food? Where? Gimme some!" Jackie got up, her head sticking up like an ostrich's. Not a very flattering description, but it was pretty close to the truth.
Seeing that Kyle was no where in the room, she assumed the worst. He had stolen all the food! The very idea! Especially when she was there - poor, weak, tiny, delicate, hungry her.
She gave chase.
.....
Ten minutes later...
There was a smug Jackie and a suitably chastised Kyle. Age never mattered in such scenarios. Food was food.
Lorcan was waiting for them with an amused expression. Never had he seen such a young girl cower a Mentor with so much ease. It was almost as if it was the other way around.
As he waited for them to complete their breakfast ( which would definitely take a while ) Lorcan mentally recalled the Prophecy -
A Queste to create complete chaos
A duo to mend the betrayal
Portals to be created
Dragons' avenge awaited
An oath to end it all
And an ancient Curse to recall.
The girl to keep the fire
The man to ceasefire
Together they will stand
But if kiss can backhand.
