Last Year
Beep...Beep...Beep...Beep
I was awakened from my slumber by the ringing of my alarm clock. I will be so happy once I no longer have to wake up at 6 in the morning to attend the most ghetto school ever, Compton High.
I slowly rose out of my warm sheets to stumble towards the bathroom located in my room.
I turned the shower on while I removed my boy shorts and sports bra and tied my hair in a sloppy bun.
Once I stepped into the shower I was fully awakened by the temperature of the water. Man, this feels so good, I thought to myself.
I'm happy that this is my last year in high school, but I know that the challenges that I have to face after this is going to be hard. I just hope I'm prepared to finally skip over to adulthood, being that I turn 18 in 2 months.
After a refreshing 15 minute shower I stepped out and wrapped a towel around my waist. I brushed my teeth and walked into my room.
I found an outfit that consisted of black leggings, and loose fitting black crop top that read Dope in blue, and my Gamma Blue XII. Something simple. I'm not tryna impress these hoes or niggas. I have no friends so that minimizes the drama I have to deal with.
I walked over to my vanity and put deodorant and lotion on before fixing my bun. Once I was satisfied I grabbed my phone, purse, and backpack; I then walked out of my room.
As I neared the stairs I heard my parents and someone else talking.
"Hey, Mom, Dad." I said as I grabbed a granola bar out of our pantry.
"Hello sweetheart," my dad said as he picked up his briefcase and kissed me then my mom and our foreheads, "have a great day ladies, be safe, and I love you!" he yelled as he walked out of the front door.
I turned and looked at the unknown person sitting at the table. He was a good looking guy. Lightskinned, hazel eyes, curly hair, and tattoes all over his arms.
He looks cocky though, and that is a big turn off.
"Alisha," my mom spoke up, "this is my co-worker and our new neighbor's son. It has been arranged that you two will ride to school everyday together until his car is shipped here from New Orleans. Now, I will leave you two to get aquatinted. Lock the door on your way out school starts in 10 minutes,".She kissed my cheek and walked out.
I turned towards him. "Soo, umm,-" "Zaire" "Well, Zaire I'm leaving, if you need a ride you need to come on," I said walking towards the door, "Lock the door too," I yelled. I don't mean to come off as stuck up but, I have this wall up, no friends, no drama; no boyfriend, no heartache.
I unlocked the door to my Benz truck. I started the car as he got in and put his seatbelt on. I was so happy when I got this truck for my 16th birthday. Being an only child has it's perks.
"So, Alisha, what grade are you in?" he asked.
"Twelfth," I simply replied.
"Me too,"
"Oh,"
I parked my truck and got out, not waiting on him. People were looking at me like they hated me or even feared me. I haven't done anything to anyone, so where this comes from I have no idea.
"Wait up lil mama, ion know where I'm going,"he said running to catch up with me.
"I know, that's why we're walking to the office," I replied smiling.
"Oh," he said dryly.
"Sorry for coming off so mean, I'm just not a morning person. But, I have basketball practice after school so you have to stay until I'm finished," I told him after he received his schedule and we walked out of the office.
"Let me see your schedule,"I demanded.
"Here little girl," he joked.
"Looks like we have all of our classes together," I said ignoring his comment, as everyone in the hallway enviously stared at me and gawked at Zaire. This is gonna be a long year.
