Love is not afraid of anyone or anything for love conquers all that tries to destroy it.

Mesmerizing what had just happened, I ran after Tristan on the garden. He was sitting next to the fountain. I crept in silently and when I was already close to him, I covered his eyes with my hands.

“Guess who this is.”

He said nothing. He seized my hands tightly and pulled me. I fell down and closed my eyes in fright. When I opened them, I saw Tristan’s face so close to mine. We fell down to the ground with him over me. Our lips were an inch apart and our nose touched each other’s tip.

“Can you move back?” I said after I figured out that it was already embarrassing.

He did what I said and after we stand, I wiped my dress covered in grass.

“I’m sorry about that.” He said as we sat down back on the bench.

“Since you have told me your feelings, I better told mine too,” I said, “do you know what it feels like being in love without even knowing it all along? That was what I felt. You are the only one who made my heart beat faster and slower at the same time. I wish I have known you before. But I was still happy that you gave me a reason to smile each and every day. That for every breathe I take, every step I take, you are there at the end waiting for me to come. And now I am one step close to you, can you still wait until I finally reach the end?”

“I will even if it would take up eternity. Time may never end but I promise you that I would still be there no matter what it takes.”

“That is all I need to know. Now, I could finally take that one last step for I know that this love would survive.” I hugged him tightly as if this was my last time.

“Just a question, have you ever realized that our orphanage looks weird?” he looked straight at me.

I didn’t get what he was trying to say. “I think so… why did you ask?”

“I have already told you what I feel. Now I think is the time to tell someone a secret we’ve kept for a long time.” He looked back to the ground.

“I really don’t understand what you are talking about.” But he doesn’t seem to care.

“Please don’t laugh. I am not the way you think,” I think for a while. Was it connected to the medallion? “I am a gifted person. This is not an orphanage but a hiding place. Once, there were two worlds…” but before he could continue, I interrupted.

“The Butalao and the Varela. I already know something about them.”

“But how…” he seemed to be confused too.

“The museum. I’ve read something about a medallion. So it wasn’t a mystery after all.”

“Seems you know it all.”

I looked at the fountain. “I think so. But what about the orphanage?”

“It was our hiding place. We, Cogres, were hunted by the people of Varela – the Twavers. That’s why I acted very strange when you first touched the medallion. They hunted us – especially me since I was the Prince who will next lead the Butalao – because we are some kind of shape shifters. We turn into some kind of an enraged beast that searches for blood and fresh meat each time we feel that a Twaver is near.”

The way he said those words made me remember my dream. Maybe the woman was a Cogre. “So you were like some kind of werewolf?”

“No. We are different from them. We only kill people from Varela. It was part of the curse. We kill the folks of Varela and they will hunt us.”

“When do they hunt you?”

“I don’t know. Every time they wanted I guess.”

The moon reflected its light onto my eyes. It was full moon and I felt strangeness for the first time. I was kind of afraid that he might kill me but I think he won’t for I was not a woman from Varela. “Its full moon tonight,” I said slowly.

He looked at it. “Can you hold the medallion once again and take a look at the future. I feel like there is a Twaver near. I don’t want to be some strange killing beast. We might have a chance to change it.”

“I know that the medallion could control time but I don’t think I can. Why don’t you do it?”

“Another part of the curse of the Medallion. Only someone who is not the wearer of it could see the future.”

I don’t think I can do it but I could not let Tristan down. He needed me. I feel the way he feels. He doesn’t want to be a beast or something, neither do I.

I grasped the Medallion and closed my eyes. As I open them, I found myself back in the garden – alone and without Tristan by my side. The hooded woman appeared again – back in my unusual dreams. She was staring at me though I could not see her eyes. The zephyr became cold as those of the winter and the sound of its soft breeze was the only noise you could hear. The moonlight finally illuminated the bottom part of her face. She was saying something which I cannot hear. Until she put to a stop and pointed the staff she was holding to me. My eyes widened in terror as the blue light from the end of the cane attacked me. A crash echoed behind my back and up my head it jumped through. It was Tristan turned into a beast.

“Tristan!” I shouted as the beam hit him hard. He fell down and to my lap. I embraced him as tears started to fell down. The hooded woman disappeared and finally Tristan opened his eyes. He leaped backward and growled. His sharp fangs were covered with saliva. His eyes were so red as if it was in flames as he stares at me.

            “What are you doing?”

He just growled even louder. He then jumped high and tried to bite me. His fangs were already close to my face.

“NO!” I shouted loudly.

“What is it?” he asked as he shakes my body trying to wake me up though my eyes were already wide open. “What did you see?”

“You got hit by a beam of light from the staff of the hooded woman. You were already in beast form.” I didn’t tell him about him attacking me. It might scare him. I was so confused about the curse. If they only attack Varela people, why would he attack me? Does that mean that I am… but how could that happen?

“Let’s go!” he exclaimed as he pulled me up. “The Twavers are here to hunt me!” I just followed him and wished that everything was going to be okay.
