Chapter 6: Part Of The Family

My audition for GMW was yesterday and Michael hasn't called yet. Hopefully the production team likes my audition tape and wants me to be a part of the show. When I got back home my family was waiting for the good news. My dad asked if the audition was for I show I liked and I told them what Michael's speech was before the auditions took place. I explained how the audition process went and told them what Michael had told me about my answer. They all breathed a sigh of relief at the prospect of me making it through. Today however, I'm back at school as if nothing ever happened. It's currently the end of the day and I'm sitting on the front steps waiting to get picked up. "I wish the gang was here. Amir would give me his food, Corey would argue with me until I nestled into his shoulder, Sabrina and Rowan would steal each others food. I miss them. I wonder what Peyton is up to? I wish we could all hang out right now". Buzzz buzzz. My phone is buzzing like crazy. I turn it on and the screen has a text splayed across. Rowan Blanchard just added you, Sabrina Carpenter, Corey Fogelmanis, Peyton Meyer, Amir Mitchell-Townes, Teo Halm and Uriah Shelton to the group chat 🌍. I go into the chat and find my friends arguing about something. (A/n the following is the conversation. The bold is their names and eventual nicknames and the italics are the words.)

Rowan: what do you think Maddy?
Maddy: what are we talking about? I just got the message
Sabrina: we are trying to come up with nicknames for each other in the chat. Any ideas?
Corey: I suggested Maddy be mad dog, but Uriah shot me down 😞
Peyton: Maybe we should make our own nicknames and we can see if we like them or not?
Amir: I second that.
Uriah: I'm in.
Teo:  👍🏽
Rowan changed her name to Rowboat
Sabrina changed her name to Rina
Uriah changed his name to Boing
Teo changed his name to Ham
Peyton changed his name to Muscles
Corey changed his name to Camera Man
Amir changed his name to Amiracle

Boing: Maddy, what's your nickname?
Maddy: I've never really had a nickname. A real one. My younger brother calls me butthead, my older sister calls me sassy pants, my other sister calls me loser and my dad calls me squirt.
Camera Man: what about your friends back in NYC? What did they call you?
Maddy: Well, what do you guys call me?
Ham: Maddy. You can tell us. What's going on?
Maddy: I've never had any friends. If you go to my house, on the wall leading up the stairs there are picture of each of my siblings with the friends they left behind. In birth order. From my oldest brother down to my younger sister. In the middle is my picture. In the picture is a bored looking girl and me. Grinning ear to ear like I just won the friendship lottery. She was never my friend. We hung out once or twice and I had to convince her to take the photo. My parents had to bribe me with ice cream to take that damn photo! I remember crying in the car on the way to the airport, tears streaming down my face because I hadn't left any of myself behind. My siblings had lots of friends back home, they did sports and talked to people and left lasting impressions on people. They were crying because they had left pieces of them behind. I left nothing, nothing for people to remember me. If you go back to my school and asked about me, everyone would probably have no idea who you are talking about. Make one up for me. I don't care. 😞
Rina: oh Maddy. I'm so sorry 😭
Maddy: Rina it's ok. I'm use to it. I'm not really an extrovert anyways.
Rowboat: no Maddy, it's not ok. I never knew that you went through this. I'm so glad we are friends now. You are part of this family whether you get on the show or not. We are your friends now and we are not going anywhere. You are never getting rid of us. ❤
Boing: yeah bud, you are stuck with us for better or for worse.
Ham: when people extend their friendship to you. You got to take and run because they may not do it again.
Muscles: Ham is right, we are not leaving you. Whether you like it or not. 😀
Amiracle: lets brainstorm together shall we?
Camera Man: we all took inspirations from our own life's for our nicknames. So, what inspires you Rooke?
Maddy: well, when I was younger I use to have these little bursts of creativity and I would get really excited about the project. I would work so hard and after awhile.... I would get bored and fall back into a hiatus.
Rowboat: we all get that. Last week I had the same deal. I got all excited about a photo board idea and I was making a schedule for when I was going to work on it. Yesterday, I looked at the board and that spark was gone. My creativity was out the window.
Maddy: 🤔......💡
