"Your car will be here any minute, ma'am."
"Jeffrey, how many times do I have to tell you? My name is Lillian," she replied, chuckling as she grabbed her clutch and put her cell phone inside.
"Sorry...Lillian. Are you ready?" he asked, holding the door open wide for her to pass through. Her dress was full and needed some room for her to get around easily.
"Looks like a full guest list. Should be a good turnout," Jeffrey commented, visually scanning the document.
"Fantastic," she responded thoughtfully as she left her house, with her new-ish assistant Jeffrey following closely. The two of them settled in the back seat of the escort car and rode to the event site.
No surprise to her, the press line was full to the hilt, ready to interview the myriad of celebrities expected to be attending her event. She's a lawyer by trade but landed a number of film roles by chance. Her whole world was changed after she met a famous film producer because she represented him in a case.
"Ready?" Jeffrey asked.
She nodded eagerly, chomping at the bit to get out of the car so she could mingle.
"Before you take off, remember you have obligations to NPR, BBC America, People and E! News. They should be first in line so I'll lead you there." He consulted his cell phone for a second before climbing out of the car and offering her a hand to help her out as well.
"Miss Wirtz! Please can we have a word?"
The press begged her attention and she was happy to give it.
"Over here! Lillian!"
All the while, bulbs flashed and people continued calling to her. Jeffrey kept her focused, just as he said he would and led her down the obligatory press line. Finally, she was free to speak to whomever she wanted.
"Miss Wirtz! Vanity Fair, here! Can we have a moment?"
Happily she obliged and made her way to the reporter, her ball gown swishing around her legs as she went.
"Hello!" The reporter beamed, happy that Lillian would give a moment of her time.
"Hi there, thank you for visiting our little event here."
"Little?" The reporter gasped, making Lillian chuckle. "This is the celebrity charity event of the year, it always is!"
"I know...I was just being modest," she replied in jest, brushing her artfully coiffed blonde hair off of her shoulder.
"We understand your charity donations will be split this year, in light of the current political climate."
"Because it's necessary right now, half of tonight's proceeds will go to UNICEF as it always does and the other half will go to the Southern California ACLU."
"That's a bold move, considering you've been known to steer clear from politics in general."
"There's a great need for helping those that want good things for this country. It's not about politics, it's about humans and their rights."
"That's very noble, Miss Wirtz. Who should we expect to be seeing here tonight?"
"The usual suspects," she laughed. "Robert and his wife Susan...I'm sure he will bring a bunch of people with that weren't on the guest list." She craned her neck around to get a look at the moderately sized red carpet in front of the event center. It was starting to fill up with familiar and famous faces and her insides vibrated with excitement. "I'll let them in anyway," she added wistfully.
