"Nicki! Get down here or you're gonna be late for your last day of school!" My dad yelled.

I groaned and rolled over onto my back. But then his words hit me.

Last. Day. Of. School.

That meant:

SUMMER!

I jumped out of bed and quickly got dressed.

"Took you long enough." My brother said.

"Shut up." I laughed.

"I was so close to leaving you behind." He added.

"You know I wouldn't let him leave you. Not like he has a choice anyway." Dad chimed in.

Let's explain something here. My brother does have a choice to leave. It's not like he's incapable of it. It's just that some people say that twins have this bond, and that they can't really leave each other.

That's right. I said twins.

"Nicki I swear, if you don't grab your bike right now-"

"Already out the door slow poke!" I laughed and hopped onto my bike, seeing him run out the door.

"I never see how you get out here so fast."

"Playing baseball all these years must've helped my speed get better."

As we rode by the houses, we could see our friends waiting for us.

"David man, I was getting worried. You never miss the last day of school."

"Haha Mac, funny joke. Nicki here had to sleep in."

"You know what David?" I rode right up next to him and took his hat. Not the best I could do, but I was on a bike.

When we got to school, we put our bikes in the rack, and David ran to Hayley.

"That's gross." I said, rolling my eyes.

"C'mon Nicki. Don't be like that." Hayley replied.

I smiled.

"If you weren't one of my best friends, I would be puking right now."

As we entered the school, we all rushed to our lockers to put our stuff away.

When I opened mine, a slip of paper fell out.

"What's that Nicki?" Penny asked, looking over my shoulder.

"Uh uh. No looking."

"Nicki's got a love note, Nicki's got a love note." Jenny sang.

"Who is it from?" Saul asked.

"It's not a love note Saul. It's just a piece of paper that fell out of my locker."

The others turned back to their lockers and I quickly opened it up to see what it read.

Nicki,

Meet me at the stream after school.

~S

The bell rang, and I shoved the note into my pocket and closed my locker.

*after school*

"C'mon. Let's get to the Sandlot!" David yelled, running to the bikes.

"I'll catch up with you guys later. I got someplace to be."

Sammy signed something out to Saul, which he told us was, "Sammy wants to know what's more important than us."

"Nothing. Guys c'mon. I'll be hanging with you every day this summer, except this one. I'll meet up with you guys in a little bit."
