After Singleton and I dried off, we started walking back into town.
"I should be getting to the Sandlot."
"C'mon Nicki. Hang out with me a little longer."
"I can't Reece. I gotta get back."
He sighed.
"Then when can we hang out again?"
"I'll meet you at the stream every other day if that's what you want."
"Every other day at 2?"
"That works for me. I'll see you there."
"What, no hug?"
"Nah." I stuck my tongue out and rode off to the Sandlot.
*at the Sandlot*
"Already taking a break? I wasn't gone that long." I could see them all sitting in the dugout.
"Hayley's mom made lemonade." Mac said.
"That is a good excuse." I sat down and grabbed a glass.
"Nicki, mom wants to know if you wanna come over tonight with Jenny and Penny."
"I got nothing else to do. Let me run home and get clothes, and take a shower. I smell like the stream right now."
*after running home and getting a shower and packing (at Hayley's house now)*
"How was your day with Singleton?" Jenny asked.
"It was okay. We hung out."
"Nothing else?" Hayley asked.
"I didn't even hug him. Only our arms touched."
"Nicki, you never did tell us what happened that Friday after the game. Of course we knew that you were with Singleton, and we kept that from David and the others. But what happened?"
I sighed.
"Do you really wanna know?"
"Yes!" They screamed in unison.
*flashback*
"Nicki, go make sure Hayley's okay." David said.
"Why don't you? You're the one who has a crush on her."
"I do not have a crush on her! Besides, I'm a guy. I can't go in there."
I walked into Hayley's room, and saw her laying on her bed.
"How are you doing?"
She looked over and smiled.
"Better. I didn't know the pain could last this long."
"He hit you pretty hard. I would expect it to hurt for a while."
"Is..is David out there?"
"Yeah. He's pretty worried about you, although he won't admit it."
She blushed.
"I wish I could stay longer, but I need to be somewhere."
"Where are you going?"
"I'm gonna go talk with Singleton."
*at Singleton's house*
"Nicole! How lovely it is to see you!"
"You too Amanda. I didn't know how to dress, so I hope this is okay." (dress above)
"You look amazing. Now come on in. I'll call Reece and my husband down."
