i've been really distant these past few days. ever since i saw what happened to the boy and what happened to hael, i don't know what to believe. how come i could see the shadows? am i some sort of superhero? that would be so cool.
i slap myself lightly on the forehead after thinking that. god, i am the most immature human being to ever exist.
i also realised that i've been drinking a lot more lately. i know it seems ridiculous but i just keep thinking about my family and ruby and how they've all been taken. maybe i'm searching for the impossible and i'm inevitably going to be taken too.
however, i am curious. it's a very peculiar process. i've been trying to search up things like this on hael's laptop to see if the lore has anything on there but so far i have found nothing. hell, i can't even tell if it's day or night right now.
i decided to talk to hael for the first time in about three weeks. i think that if we work together and investigate enough we might be able to stop this.
i walked down the stairs, tripping over the last few and fell to my knees and cursed.
"well, hello stranger! i was beginning to think you hated me." hael said, while helping me up from the floor. honestly, she always turns up at the most embarrassing times.
"yeah, well, i've been doing a lot of thinking lately and-"
"oHH?! aND WHAT?"
i sigh deeply before carrying on,"well, it's not much, but if i remember correctly that one shadow let out a dark purple substance the first time i slashed at its arm. i think that maybe if we can hunt a few down and collect samples from them they could help?"
"ooh~ yes, yes! when are we leaving?"
"oh no. i think you're mistaken. you stay here and look after the house. they take houses too you know. and you're also useless when it comes to fighting."
"well i guess you're right. just bring a lot of protection will you? and wrap up warm; it's freezing out there."
"okay, mum"
she jokingly rolled her eyes at me and threw me a coat. i then went to pack a bag with spare clothes because i could be gone for a few days; maybe longer.
i also grabbed my phone so we could keep in touch if anything were to happen. mostly incase one of the shadows found hael and she needed help but still.
"please be careful, alright?"
"of course. i'll be back in 3 days, tops."
"okay, cool. i'll be waiting."
and with that i walked out the door and set off to the village which was now almost completely vaporised.
~~~~~~
i creeped up behind a pile of rubble, got out the small pistol out of my pocket and looked around for any danger. to my surprise, there was an eerie silence. i don't know whether to be relieved or worried.
i ran over to the next pile of rubble and did the same again. i made a loud snapping noise as i stepped on some debri, and a quiet growl replied from a few houses down. i braced myself and aimed my pistol at the house just incase.
a massive black shadow emerged from the house. it had grown to be just over half the size of the house. this one has obviously been around for a long time. it was still terrifying none the less; with its soulless holes where the eyes should be, the abnormally long arms,legs and neck and the haunting long thin mouth with tiny wisps of black mist flowing out of it.
it looked around cluelessly before making another growl and headed back behind the house. this ones going to be my first subject.
i hastily climbed up the rubble of the house nearest to me and leapt to the next one. the houses weren't very spaced out, leaving about a 50cm gap between each on them. i jumped on to the house before the shadow and crouched on the remains of the roof. i peered down into the dark alley way and saw the same shadow shuffling further towards the back of the house. i aimed carefully with my pistol and shot at its arm, a loud monstrous growl escaping from its mouth. the shadow looked up ferociously and started to advance up the wall of the house. i kept firing at its arm and every time it grew another one back. gross.
after an unnecessary amount of time the shadow finally reached the roof where i was and grew a few inches taller. Despite this, i fired one shot at its chest and it fell to the ground, but it wasn't done yet. i took this to my advantage and pulled out the knife i had in my belt loop and slashed at its neck, as this seemed to be the only way to kill them. this time it took a couple of attempts to end the beast, and it let out a menacing growl as i was covered in the purple substance.
i got five test tubes full of this and turned back around to climb down the house and head back to hael.
however, my plans were foiled and i realised ten more of these shadows had surrounded the house, each one a different form this time. some of them just round blobs, others took the forms of dogs and reptiles. all of them simultaneously letting out some sort of cry as they try to climb the wall to get to me.
i was screwed.
