I felt and heard the crack of the wall behind me as dust fell onto my cheeks. Spells of various kinds completely filled the room. I blinked repetitively to adjust my sight and wiped blood away from a wound on my brow.

"Quentin! Get up!" I looked over at Kady as she continued to walk backwards. Her hands worked quickly, but the beast was quicker.

"Catch this." I reached my arms out awkwardly and was able to catch the necklace that Alice threw my way. My mouth remained agape as the scene before me unfolded. I rushed to my feet and stumbled only slightly.

I felt the power pulse through me and I focused my power on the beast. The swarm around his face grew more violent as the blue rays from my hands pierced each creature. I felt amazed at what the spell we had learned along with the necklace could do. We had created it earlier on a secluded part of the campus.

Earlier

"Come on!" Kady yelled exasperatedly while pacing back and forth. Alice darted her eyes over and gave a simple look and proceeded to her findings. She flipped through pages and many books trying to find a mixture of spells that could be useful if we had come across the beast again.

"Wha- what do you have already?" I asked fumbling with my sleeve.

"Well, so far I think I can combine this silent thermogenesis spell with a ward and shield spell." She responded.

"That's a good idea."

"Add a stealth spell for him. He'll need it."  Penny gave me an uncomfortable look up and down and I attempted to shake it off.

Attempted.

"Think quieter will you?" He all but yelled and walked towards the exit and stood by the door.

"Well he's upset." I muttered.

"We need a battle spell." Kady voiced. She remained bored and laid across the couch.

"I've got one covered. No worries." Alice passed a small piece of paper to me.

"If we can get into the mind of the beast and distract it, maybe we can learn it's weaknesses. Whoever does it has to get back out. It's a new spell and because we can't do a test run, we just need to get in and out before it wears off."

"We can't test it?" There's no way we could go against the beast blind sided.

"It's because, it can harm the beast. I've mixed this spell with a battle spell. If we perform it on one another, it can get painful and personal. I think we should just focus on getting in and out of that monster's head before the spell wears off."

"When's that?" I asked nervously.

"I don't know," she sighed. "But it's all we've got. I wrote the spells here. Chant once in Spanish and then once in English. Remember, one chance." Her eyes were stern as she looked over at Kady, Penny, and I.

"Well that doesn't make me feel better." Kady's tone was flat.

"Hold this necklace. It will assist in protecting whoever enters his mind temporarily."

"Okay." I stared down at the antique jewelry. I felt an anxious feeling in my gut. It's as if he were watching.

Current Time

"Do it now!" Penny yelled. He ran towards Kady who had been flung by the beast only seconds prior. My eyes darted between Penny and Alice. Alice nodded.

"Dejame entrar en la mente de la bestia! Let me enter the mind of the beast!" I chanted. I closed my eyes tightly as the world around me went silent.
