Ruben wasn't the only one who heard the noise. The woman also
heard it and yelled, "Who is it?"
She followed the noise to the big, brown table. There she waited a
moment and then shouted, "Heyyy" and then lifted up the
tablecloth and saw Max clutching his knees to his chest.
"I didn't do anything."
"Who are you?"
"I'm . . ."
Max didn't get to finish his sentence because just then Ruben
jumped out and yelled, "He's Max and I'm Ruben. We didn't
do anything. We are new here and we don't know what this
place is!" Ruben let out a big gasp.
Max looked startled and a little bit puzzled.
"How did you get here?" asked the woman. "Come sit and tell me."
Max and Ruben sat down and they all chatted for a few minutes.
The boys learned that Milda was the woman's name.
Then Max brought up the question, "Where are we?"
"You are in
replied Milda.
"Wow, Candyland?" Both boys wondered what kind of a place Candyland could be.
"Candyland is where all the candy in the world gets made.
In Candyland, everything is made of chocolate or candy,"
Milda explained.
Just then the girl came in and said, "Hi, Mom." She looked
strangely at the boys. "Oh, hello, dear."
The woman turned to Max and Ruben.
"That's my daughter. Her name is Hershey. Hershey, come over here."
Instantly the girl came over to them. She was wearing an adorable
White Caramel Cotton Candy Dress, a candy bracelet and a candy
necklace.
"Show your room to the boys," Milda said.
She pointed at Max and Ruben. "Go on."
