***Vic's POV***
I watch Iris walk down the road, after a few minutes she starts sprinting. What's going on? Is someone chasing her? My body goes into panic mode, but I ease up as I realize that it is late and she's probably just wanting to get home.
I know I just met the girl today, but I swear I like her. She was gorgeous. She's one of those girls people write songs about. You know? Those people that are so stunning that they are basically breaking humanity's rules, those people who are the nicest on earth and go unrecognized by everyone. She was one of those people. It's one of those love at first sight things I think.
I hear the front door open and a whole bunch of clatter downstairs pulling me out of my thoughts. I make my way down the wretched stairs to find my papa head in his hands on the counter.
“What's wrong papa?” I ask.
“Well, I'm falling behind with work. My boss said if I don't catch up in the next few weeks I'm gonna get fired. We're struggling as it is to keep the house, I don't need anymore stress to keep this family together,” he explains trying to stay as calm as he can.
“How far are you behind papa?”
“Well I was supposed to finish one of the richest families' house today, but I'm at least a week behind in work because of that storm that hit last week, and I have around 15 houses to do before I can even start that house,” he sighs.
I stare in disbelief, processing the information I just received. Our house is bad as it is, it's run down, tattered and needs a lot of upgrading, and we can barely afford it now. We have been living off of papa's income for a few years now, but I didn't know it was this bad.
“I'll help,” I blurt. He looks at me with a confused face, “I mean, I'll come with you, and I'll help you catch up on your work. You can't loose your job, it's the only thing that's keeping us alive.”
“Vic, no. I'm not asking you for any help. I don't need it, I promise I can catch up, you need to go to school.”
“Papa, it's only a few weeks, I'm helping you no matter what you say,” I force on him.
He sighs, I can tell he's thinking hard, “Fine, but if this is just for you to get out of school, you're going to get it,” I smirk.
“I promise, It's not.”
---
“I saw the way you looked at her, I know for sure you like her,” Mike smirks at me while he throws a whole bunch of clean t-shirts at me. I stuff them into my bag and sigh, “Do not sigh at me, you can't deny it.”
“Well I am, I do not like Iris, that's final,” I look around my room seeing if I missed and important necessities.
“Missing this?” Mike holds up a journal flipping through the pages.
“HEY!” I scream and dive across the room tearing it from his hands.
“Ou, Vic has a diary,” he winks. I roll my eyes, really? Is a man not allowed to write once in a while? It actually wasn't a diary, it was a whole bunch of lyrics I scribbled down for songs I wanted to write in the future. It sounds cheesy I know, but it's not what it seems like.
I was always my dream to become a music artist, even if it was just writing lyrics, I wanted something to do with music when I'm older. Music was my escape, it was everything to me. Most people would say that their boyfriend or their girlfriend helped them through their rough times. But in my case it's music, and music wont just get up and leave on me.
“Man, it's okay to admit that you're a little girly,” Mike smirked at me.
“Dude, it's not a diary, and even if it was it doesn't make me girly! Guys can have diaries too, they just choose to call them a journal, instead so they sound manly.”
“If it's not a diary what is it?”
“Music,” I reply quietly.
“Music? How can music- ohh,” he comes to realization. “You write man? Why didn't I know about this?”
“I guess it was my secret. I mean, everyone knew I liked learning songs on the guitar, but I never really told anyone I wrote anything. It's my way of escaping.” I shove the book into my already stuffed bag.
“I want to hear some of it someday, maybe it'll make it big, and knowing you, it probably will,” he smiles at me. I love Mike, he can be a jerk sometimes, but he always understands me, it's that brotherly thing, you know?
“Thanks man,” I punch him in the shoulder playfully. Unexpectedly, he throws a punch at me with all his might, immediately he bolts downstairs.
“You're getting it this time!” I scream at him chasing him down the stairs. When I get to the bottom of the steps, everything is quite. I can't hear Mike, nor his breathing. “Mike?” I ask in confusion.
“AHHHH!” I turn around, and see Mike running at me with so much speed he could outrun a cheetah. I press my body to the wall dodging him, watching him run straight into the wall. I press my lips together trying to hold back a laugh but there's no use. He falls on the floor holding his face groaning in pain.
“You fucker!” He laughs.
“You should have seen yourself!” I say between breaths.
“Boys! Keep it down, your mother is trying to sleep!”
“Sorry Papa,” I laugh and run upstairs with Mike.
“Well, I'm going to bed, I have to get up early in the morning, we're leaving at six,” I sigh.
“Okay Man, Have a good sleep,” Mike nods at me and heads into his room.
I close the door behind me and click the lock, making sure no one would get it. I drop my body onto my bed, reaching over to my bedside table and grabbing my phone. Clicking it on I notice I have a message from Iris.
Hey Vic, It's Iris, i just wanted to say that I made it home safe. See you tomorrow. :)
A wave a relief rushes over me. If she wasn't okay I don't know what I'd do. I quickly type out a reply and send it.
Hi Iris, That's great you made it home safe, have a good night. Although I wont be seeing you for a few weeks, Mike will explain tomorrow, goodnight. :)
I was half tempted to say “I love you,” But that's A creepy, and B not exactly true, yet. I mean I like Iris, I just don't know if it's love. I place my phone down and I roll over closing my eyes. It's going to be a hell of a month.
