Chapter Twelve

I watch Vic pull out of the driveway, slamming on the gas and zooming down the road. Tears fall from my eyes as I open the front door to my house. I kick off my shoes and creep around into the kitchen.

“Mum?”

“Iris?” she calls back from the lounge.

“Mum, I'm sorry,” I stalk into the lounge wiping my tears.

“Don't be sweetie, come here,” she pulls me into a tight hug.

“Vic left, I don't think he's coming back.”

“What do you mean? What happened?” She gasps .

“When Mike left, I slept with Vic. I realized I loved them both. And I didn't know who to choose. So I chose Vic at the moment. I wanted him. But when I called Mike, he was drunk and destroying himself and I realized that I missed him more than anything and I told him I loved him in front of Vic. And when I got off the phone Vic freaked and took me home, he didn't even say goodbye. He just left. And I don't know what's going on, I'm scared.”

“Iris honey, please stop crying, it'll be okay. Alright? He'll come back around, I promise. They always do. Where's Mike now?” I wipe my tears and look up at her in shock. I don't know where Mike is, my phone died and I need to call him now.

“I don't know,” my panic alarm set off in my head.

“Call him, here's my phone,” she handed me her cellphone and I unlocked it. I quickly dial his number and press talk holding it up to my ear.

“Mike?” I say before he can say hello.

“Iris?”

“Mike, oh my God are you okay?”

“I'm fine, are you okay?” his words are slurred.

“I'm okay, where are you?”

“I don't know, some alley by the bar I was at.”

“What bar were you at?”

“Dude, I don't know, somewhere downtown.”

“I'm going to look for you, alright?”

“Alright Iris, be careful, okay? I don't want you hurt,” he slurs into the phone.

“Okay, I'm on my way,” I hang up the phone and hand it to my mum.

She hands me the keys to her car instantly and kisses me on the cheek.

“Thank you mum, I love you. I'll be back,” I flash her a smile and strut out the door.
