I can't believe everything that I went through, and I'm only nineteen. Crazy!
Well, its been a long complicated ride, and we've lost a lot. But, let me take you back to the beginning. Back to when our lives were normal.
******
One and a half year agoBeep! Beep! Beep!
"Argh," I groaned as I switched off my alarm clock. Six thirty. I yawned and got out of bed. I walked up to the mirror to look at my reflection.
"Urgh," I groaned in disgust at my physical appearance. I walked to the windows and drew the curtains. My eyes squinted in pain due to the intense light.
I then, walked over to the bathroom to freshen up. Once I was done, I walked up to my closet. I couldn't help but sigh.
"Its the first day of school. This is it, senior year. My life begins after this ends," I smiled. "Of course I have to look my best."
I wore a magenta crop top with a mini leather jacket on top. Plus, cute purple flowery shorts. I smiled, admiring my work and went over to my desk. I took a curling iron and curled my hair a bit before combing it, to give it a wavy look.
Once I was done with hair and clothes, I went on to make up. A bit of mascara, eyeliner to bring out my grey eyes, and some pink lipstick. I looked like a model if I do say so myself. I went downstairs to the kitchen.
"Hey mom, hi dad!" I said giving each of them a kiss. Dad was drinking some coffee and mom was toasting some bread.
"Hi sweety," they both said in unison.
"Sup, Lexi," I said hugging my cousin. She was actually my cousin once removed; my grandmother's sister's daughter. She lived with us because my mom always wanted to keep an eye on her. She was only twenty one and she had just graduated from uni.
"Hey Maddie, whatsup?" she hugged me back.
"Well, I'm super excited for senior year. My life begins when this year ends. Plus, I can't wait to see all of my friends," I said.
"And meet hot guys, right?" she winked. My mouth dropped.
"Dan and I literally just broke up," my face dropped.
"Three months is enough to get over it. Besides, the two of you were best friends before you got together. He loves you. It doesn't matter if it takes time for him to go back to the brotherly love he had for you, but everything will go back to normal. You have to trust that he loves you enough to want to be a part of life, it doesn't matter how how big or small that part is," she smiled sincerely and I nodded.
"I love you," I said.
"I love you more," she smiled.
"I love both of you more but if we don't get this show on the road, we'll be late to school. Not that I particularly mind but, its not a good first impression. So hurry up let's eat and bounce," said my sister, Samantha, who walked into the kitchen.
We all laughed and shook our heads. I loved my family.

"Alright, we're here," I said once we got to school," Samantha got out of the car and looked at the campus."Junior year," she sighed. "Welcome back to-"
"Riverton High," I finished.
"Well, I gotta get to the coordinator's office to pick up my timetable, extra curricular activity form, and my sports option form. Have a nice day, good luck with dance team tryouts today and I'll see you later," she said and started walking away.
"Bye Sam," I smiled. "This year is gonna be amazing," I thought to myself and started walking.
"Maddie," I heard my name and I turned around to see who it was. My smile slowly dropped as I saw Dan Maxfield approaching me. Dan as in, my ex, former love of my life, my best friend, and the cutest guy I've ever seen.
"Dan, hi," I said putting on a fake smile. Don't get me wrong, I love him, he means the world to me. But that's the problem, I don't know how I love him. I mean, this is the guy I grew up with. Its not easy to date your best friend. But its even harder to break his heart.
"Hey," he said flashing me his cute smile and I melted.
"I'm sorry, but isn't it a crime for a guy to look this cute whole doing anything. I mean seriously how are people supposed to go about with their regular activities when they have such distractions in life," I blurted out without even realising what I was saying. He simply laughed.
"Well its a good thing that it isn't a crime or else I would have to serve a life sentence," he laughed. "I missed you," he said putting his arm around my shoulder and we walked for a few seconds in silence. I was contemplating what to say.
"Listen Dan, I know things have been a bit awkward but I need to say this. I love you. I'm sorry that I broke your heart. But I really don't know why I did it. You were the perfect fit for me and yet I ruined us. I don't know what's going on with me but, I do know that I love you. I just don't fully understand how I love you, yet," I said. He nodded.
"Don't apologise, I'm not mad at you. I get it. And until you figure out your feelings for me, I will be there for you, as your best friend," he smiled and I hugged him.
"Maddie!" two voices shouted in unison. I turned around to see my two other best friends running towards me. Cecile and Veronica jumped on me with bear hugs.
"We missed you so much!" they both shouted.
"Cece we saw each other like two weeks ago," I said flatly with a smile on my face.
"Yes but two weeks seem like forever. If it wasn't for my cousin who came over, we would have spent the past two weeks having sleepovers and watching Netflix," Cece said.
"Don't be so dramatic," I smiled. Then, I turned to Veronica. "Ver, I missed you so much. How was Italy?" I asked.
"Perfecto," she smiled. "It was amazing. Rome is so beautiful and historical. It was such a great experience. My mom and I had so much fun."
"Wow, I'm so forgotten over here," Dan pouted.
"Aww, Danny, we could never forget about you, boo," Cece said and gave Dan a hug.
"I missed you," he smiled.
"I missed you too," she replied.
"Dan," Ver grinned.
"Its like you're everywhere but here these days," Dan smiled and the two hugged.
"What can I say, I'm a woman of adventure," she smiled.
"This would be so great if we didn't have to hurry to get to the coordinator's office and get to class," I said and Cece groaned.
"You're such a vibe killer, you know that?" she asked as we started walking to the coordinator's office.
"I know," I smiled in response.
'What a perfectly normal and average life that was' is what you must be thinking. Well, things didn't last. That was only the first day of school after all.
