"This isn't working!" I said in frustration. Kendal and I had been practising dance moves for almost an hour already and nothing we did worked. We weren't flowing like we did a couple of days ago.

After we reached home yesterday, Kendal and I went to my room and watched the latest episode of the Originals on the CW. He seemed to keep up very well with what was going on for someone who had just watched it for the first time.

But, after he left, Lexi came up to my room to talk to me. She told me that there was something different about Kendal and that she had wierd vibes about him. She told me to be careful.

After what Lexi said, I started questioning what I felt for Kendal. Was I moving too fast? Was he gonna break my heart? I didn't know but it was really bugging me.

"What's wrong Maddie?" he asked me.

"Nothing is wrong. I'm just angry that we only have today to practice and we can't get this dance right. Everything was ok a few days ago so I really don't get why-"

"I'm not talking about the choreography. What's wrong with you? You have something on your mind and it can't let you focus on this dance," he asked me.

"Well, there's something that's been bothering me since yesterday and I didn't know how to say it without sounding petty," I told him.

"Just say it. I won't judge you," he smiled warmly and I couldn't help but muster a small smile.

"Its actually two things. Why is Derrick trying so hard to make you realise that Danielle is the love of your life? And is he right; is she?" I asked and he stared at me before sighing.

"Sit," he told me and we sat on the benches at the side of the studio.

"She is the love of my life," he said and my eyes widened as my breath got caught in my throat.

"But the thing is, your first love is never really your last love, is she?" he smiled and I looked up at him. "I mean yeah, for a while you'll question your feelings, you'll wonder if you're being a horrible person by loving someone else and you'll realise that you're starting to hate yourself for the things that you're doing and thinking. But the truth is that this is our reality. You won't spend everyday of your life, hanging on to old memories. Life is too short, you need to move in and make new ones. You need to realise that you have the right to be happy so that you can learn to live again. And don't do it for their sake, do it for your sake."

I smiled at his words. He was absolutely right. I kissed his cheek.

"Ok, so this move that I had in my head, can we try it out?" I asked and he laughed and nodded.

"Alright. So the plot of the song is that you love me and you would do anything for me, but I never cared enough about you to realise it before it was too late for you. Its like I keep smiling with you but in reality I'm just tossing you every which way," I explained.

"Ok. But what does that have to do with the move?" he asked.

"Its not just one move. Its like a whole story. Its a few moves combined and I was thinking that we could use it as the body of the dance," I explained and he nodded.

"So, when he says 'gave you all I had and you tossed it in the trash' we should hold our hands in a criss cross position and then we both spin to the side. Then you pull me towards your arms and I push your chest back so you bend back and come back up really quickly," I explained.

"That's a good one. And I was thinking that at the chorus when he's sacrificing himself for the girl, I should step in front of you and block you from danger and keep pulling you out of the way every time something is coming at you. Then when he says 'I would die for you baby' I'll hold you in my arms and try to kiss you. But, you'll turn your head at the last minute so I'll kiss your cheek instead," he said and I smiled.
