I spent half of the chariot ride in a daze. Don't blame me, 'kay? I had just found my long-lost sister and found out that I was a child of Athena: two of my biggest dreams ever since I was five. Eventually, though, I decided to ask Tréa about 'Rogue Demigods'.
"So, what is this 'Rogue Demigods' of yours?", I asked.
"An organization. A camp, I guess. We're called 'Rogues' because we're not connected to any of the larger groups."
"So you mean there are other groups of..." I paused for a second there and I'm sure that I had a dreamy look in my eyes when I continued. "Demigods?"
My sister laughed. "Oh, there's tons!"
"I was surprised to find out that there was one. Or that I am a demigod. Or that demigods even exist!"
"So was I.", Tréa replied.
"You were three years old!", I cried.
"You could list all twelve Olympians before you knew how to say 'mommy'", she objected.
"Good point.", I muttered.
"So... What's up with your, uh, friend? I mean, she looks nice and everything but, you know, the...", She gestured to her eyes.
"Yeah...", I muttered. "I actually didn't know about that. I mean, I knew about the sunglasses, but not the eyes. Or the powers. She's too powerful to be a child of Demeter, right? I mean, Demeter's the goddess of agriculture and Silvia uses the earth..."
I trailed off and Tréa and I exchanged a silent What if?.
Just then, Chris, who was driving the chariot, announced, "We're here!"
The chariot landed and we climbed out. We were instantly greeted by a flood of people. They all stopped in their tracks when they saw Silvia, or more specifically, her eyes.
"Uh... Hi?", she said nervously.
A bunch of people shrugged and continued swarming us.
They had just started introducing themselves when Chris yelled, "Calm down!"
Everybody stopped.
"Whew!" I said, wiping imaginary sweat off my forehead.
"Thank. You.", Tréa mumbled.
"Everybody!', she then yelled. "Stay calm! They're just a few new arrivals! NO. BIG. DEAL!"
I had to admire the respect she commanded. Everybody had stopped to look at her. I mean, she was only ten years old, so two years younger than me, but she seemed older than me. Meanwhile, Alex, as usual, was being annoying.
"Just a few new arrivals? No big deal? Who does she think we are?", he said.
"Why do you ask?", asked Silvia sarcastically. "Would you prefer that they keep mobbing us?"
"Well, I can't help it if people enjoy my good looks.", he said.
"Good looks, my eye.", she muttered.
"That almost sounds funny, coming from the girl with the golden eyes."
She clenched her fists, as did I. I had always hated Alex, especially when he made fun of me, or in this case, Silvia. I would fight him if I had to, although, if you ask me, I probably didn't need to. Silvia could hold her own.
Slowly, she opened her hand again and calmed down.
"If I were you,", she said in a carefully controlled tone of voice that probably indicated that she was boiling with anger like a volcano about to explode. "I would probably shut up. That is, unless you want to suffer the same fate as that Laestrygonian. If I were to decide on making you suffer like that, it wouldn't be your 'good looks' that would save you. Understood?"
