The night sky shone bright with millions of stars. I've never seen the night sky myself. Neither have i seen the sky itself. The only things i have seen from above are trees, plants, and water. Everything seemed to amaze me.
I'm Cassandra, and i am 17 years old. i have dark brown hair, a small face and bright blue eyes. My mother always told me i was special but i knew i was just another person who was lucky enough to be alive in the miserable earth or what was left of it. I wished i was born before the war so i could be able to see the wondrous wonders my mother always told me about so i would not live in fear and eagerness to see what it was like.
Unfortunately, i was born in an underground shelter. It has been almost 40 years since the war that caused people to protect themselves has happened. My mother rarely told me stories about the war. "Your father and I were scared. We were about your age then. It was beautiful before the war begun. Everything was green and the air smelled fresh. There were things called lakes, which were large areas of water. Yet with all the beauty of the world, there was darkness. I remember when the news on the television would inform everyone about what would happen. One day, planes started flying in the sky. They weren't from around the parts here. I went inside my house and turned on the television and the news was on showing the president declaring to go hide or something around those lines" she always told me. She then pulled a picture out of her pocket and showed it to me.
It surprised me all the time. Of course, because i have never seen such a thing. The world seemed so close but i could never reach it. It scared me to think of the war as well. People inflicting pain and hatred against others was a terrible thing to think about. I felt lucky that i was a survivor. Other older people who live in the shelter have also told me stories. Some have said there are more people out there other than us. Some have said that some of the people up there are trying to make war with others. Whenever i think of things people have told me about the 'outside' made me feel uneasy but very eager to head out one day and explore.
One day, the ceiling shook. Big sound burst came following. Whirring as well. I was shocked when i heard something screech , because it was very mechanic or human like. Something else surprised me. Someone was screaming outside
