"Dirty dirty humans, don't talk to them, don't go near them, don't talk to them, don't speak their name, don't get involved with them, and don't make friends with them. " The story begins.
"Why not?" One of the children ask in the circle.
"They're one of the dirtiest creatures on the planet. They're the ones that don't protect their own kinds, embarrass each other, and they're the ones that murder each other. Cruel they are really. Even vultures would be a higher standing- seeing they eat the flesh of rotten death. " The story teller said with a shake.
"What do we do when we see a human?" Another child asks.
"You don't treat them as an equal." THe teller replies. "You don't. The law states that any who associates themselves with the humans are executed on spot. Stay away."
****************
We are just like a humans. We have skin, we have siblings, we have parents, we have relatives, and everything they have...except one. We don't have their cruelty and their disgusting ways. We live in hiding, all over the world, from the humans. The human world has evolved over the past few decades. THey have found out our existence, and now, we must live in hiding. They love our skin, our quality of hair, and are curious of the powers we hold. When they first discovered us, they feared us-we were superior, and then they began to become curious, and hunted.
We are called Edims. We live for at least 300 years, some of us can fly, some have different abilities, and we live off by taking energy from humans. First, we used to take energy from the plants and nature around us, but that all stopped when the humans began to poison the fields with their factories. In anger, we now take energy from the humans, sometimes too much-killing them. Sometimes, people call us vampires, but we don't take any blood. Instead, we take either their sense of reality or their energy literally. Although I've only heard rumors, I heard there was a third way to take energy from the humans. It was to fall in love with a human. If you fall in love with them, their love would fill you with endless energy, and your love will do the same for them. But I know that's all rubbish.
"Maddy, grab the bucket of water for your brother." My mom says. I get off my bed and sluggishly get out of the stone room and walk out. Outside, there were millions of rooms above and below me, people were flying up and down, and it was lively as ever in the big cave. I ran to my older brother's work place with the bucket of water that my mom prepared in front of our room.
"Kenneth! Hello?!" I yell into the shop. I was Amanda but people called me Maddy. I was a normal 17 year old girl who has a strange ability that no one knows about. Not even my family. I was always believed to be a powerless girl in the area and people cared for me a lot because of that. They would bring in some food and water for me when I was sick and always stopped by, kindly. My older brother, Kenneth, was 19 years old. He was the sun of the youth. He had the ability to control water which was pretty impressive. He was quiet, slow on everything, and dull but despite those features, girls flocked over him.
"Maddy?" I hear my brother in the back as he comes out. "What are you doing here?"
"Mom told me to bring you this." I say and put the bucket in front of him. "What's it for?"
"None"
"What?"
"Nunya business." He says and leaves my smiling face with embarrassment.
"I'm going to be out with Charlie!" I tell at him and run out of the shop. I run to the back of the cave as fast as I could and out of the cave. Outside, there were people taking in crops, children running around, and some couples even walking around. I ran past the fields and headed towards the small pond where Charlie and I met everyday.
"Charlie?" I ask as I see him crouching and looking into the pond. I sat next to him and stared at what he was staring at. "What're you looking at?"
"What would you do if I started to fall in love?" He asks me.
"Are you on something?" I ask, giving him a weird look but he laughs and I laugh a little with him. "Why? Did you find your love of your life?"
"I think I did." He nods his head slowly and looks at me. "We're bestfriends right?"
"Yeah." I nod my head.
"I need to tell you something, but you can't tell anyone." He says. He looks around and motions me to come closer. I come closer and he puts his mouth to my ears. "I fell in love with a human."
"WHAT?!" I whip my head to him so quickly that I hit his head and he begins to wobble. He gives out a hand and I grab him so that he doesn't fall but instead, he pulls me in. We splash into the pond and start laughing together. "What are you talking about Charlie? You're so funny."
"Yeah..." He nods his head as he stops laughing. He gets up and tightens his shirt so that he can squeeze the water out. I saw his nice body and his blond hair bright under the sun and my heart jumped. Charlie had always been the one for me. Ever since we began to talk to each other when we were only kids, he has always been there for me, and now, I was drawn to him naturally like he had a part of me. Maybe he wanted me to jealous, he wanted to start something, and maybe he liked me back. That is why he said that.
"Charlie...." I start as I get up. "Do you really like a human? You heard the stories about them right? They're the ones that kill each other!"
"Doesn't mean they can't love." He says quietly and smiles. "But yeah, I know. You don't have to remind me."
"Phew, I thought you might have forgotten." I say with a smile.
