Please allow me to immediately say I own no rights to DA, and I'm sorry for this long winded chapter. It'll be backstory, but it should help fill in gaps about things mentioned in other chapters. Please excuse any random facts and issues with tense- leave me a message if you notice something wrong with it! This whole story will contain MAJOR spoilers for all three games, so beware! Thank you!

There are many words to describe Orlais- beautiful, overpopulated, exhausting, and stressful. To Matthew Vallorn it's irritating and ridiculous. The politics. Empress Celene is much too invested in politics, Duke Ghaspard is too war-ready and Briala- her advisor and too elf-lenient.

Matthew Vallorn is a Dalish Elf- but much different than an average Dalish. He's what the keeper has named Fae. He isn't Dalish, which is an obvious fact, but he's not a pure Elvish. He's possibly not even either. But his powers are unusual and terrifying to anyone who knows him. Matthew is shunned by his own clan, except for Keeper Gemini. She keeps order and protect Matthew until he's old enough to depart from the clan.

Age 10~
Matthew finds that he's not a typical Dalish. His friends start to shun and ignore him, and his mother vanishes. He wanders from his clan and cannot find his way back, making living tedious and impossible at 10. He ran into a group of Templars and was led back to a clan, not his, but Matthew wasn't really in the position to argue. Matthew managed to run from the clan and follow the Templars back to their camp, where he stayed until he was caught. The Dalish clan had moved on so the Templars kept him and raised him, and his "father" was a Templar named Baccus.
Baccus was a good father, he raised Matthew until he displayed magical powers a few months later. Baccus had Matthew stolen from him and went crazy soon after- being executed. The Templars that kidnapped Matthew were power crazed and experimented on him, and the only thing he remembers beside the incredible pain of Lyrium being injected into him was the name "Fenris" over and over.

Age 15~
Matthew became a weapon for these rogue Templars, he aided in weakening the Templar order. Then without a cause he was called off the hunt for the Templar seniority. Matthew didn't question it, it was none of his business. He returned to the rogue faction and collected his thoughts.

Age 17~
Matthew, after two years of thinking, discovered secrets about the Rogue faction that showed him their corruption and addiction to a substance called Red Lyrium. Matthew cut ties at the first chance he got, and destroyed their Red Lyrium supply. A man named Corypheus tried to end Matthew before he escaped, but failed only because The Templars showed up to end the rogue faction.

Age 21~ Matthew rejoined a Dalish clan and learned the way of the keeper, but the Lyrium in his veins lit ever nerve on fire when he cast magic. It was an excruciating process to tame the fire in his veins, but it yielded results in the end. Matthew became a powerful mage but in return had permanent Lyrium scars grafted onto his skin. The scars light up whenever he casts magic and cause shunning from his people.

Age 22~
Matthew Lavellan becomes Matthew Vallorn, killing a corrupt noble after leaving his clan. He uses the money to fund research about the Fade, a topic that has always attracted his attention and captivated his sleeping and waking hours.

Age 23~
A man by the name of Solas approaches Mathew, wishing to see his research. Matthew refuses, and finds Solas is a powerful mage that cannot be stopped by normal means. Solas steals valuable research and an Elven orb that Matthew spent more than half of his newfound fortune to acquire from the Deep Roads.

Age 24~
A huge hole in the sky appears, and suddenly demons fall from the Fade. Fade rifts appear and demons attack innocents. Matthew defends his home and friends, and valiantly displays heroism. He fails to save his friends and house, and loses all his money. Matthew leaves the remains of his house. This is where our story begins.
