Sal and, Jesse walked along a dirt road following Mist. They walked all day and Sal finally had to say something, "Ok! Are we gonna stop?! You may not have legs but we are humans! We need rest!"
Mist stopped and turned to her.
Well I guess we can stop for the night, we can take shelter in that cave over there
Sal shrugged and sat down in the cave, patting the ground beside her and looking at Jesse.
Jesse walked to her and sit beside her, she sighed and leaned up against Sal's shoulder. Sal smiled and felt her eyelids get heavy. They both fell asleep.
The next day Sal was awoken by
SAL WAKE UP WE'RE GONNA BE LATE!
"WHAT?! I WAS SLEEPING"
"H-Huh?"
Sal picked her up. "Go back to sleep, I'll wake you up when we get there"
Jesse nodded and fell back asleep in Sal's arms. Sal followed Mist to a average looking house in a big clearing. Mist backed away.
You'll have to go alone anikokid
Sal nodded but looked questionly at Jesse.
Leave her aswell, this is your job
Sal sat her on the ground and walked up to the house. She knocked and someone about her size about the door. A voice vibrated through her head.
That's not the anikokid. The one whom you're looking is tall, cobalt hair, and he's blind.
Sal noted this and stuck out her hand.
"Hi, I'm looking for the blind kid" bit blunt but oh well. The person laughed "You mean the useless piece of ungrateful shit?! He's in the back."
Sal felt horrified. She didnt know what was worse. The fact this person used that kind of language. Or the how horrible this kid has to be for them to use such language.
She walked to the back of the house and saw a tall boy sitting in the middle of the floor, singing a sweet tune. The boy had a smile on his face and his eyes were closed. She listened for a solid 15 minutes until he stopped. She remembered what she was there for.
"Uh, hello?"
His face turned bright pink and he became flustered. "O-Oh! Did y-you hear m-me?"
Sal sighed "Yes. You have a lovely voice and I'm quite sad you stopped. But that's not why I'm here, what's your name? "
"Cloud"
"Cool. You're a anikokid. Come with me if you wanna have a cool adventure."
"B-But what a-about m-my father?"
"That meanie won't miss you"
He nodded and stood up, She took his hand and led him outside. Jesse was awake and rambling to Mist.
"Hey Jesse, this is Cloud, be careful with him ok? He can't see"
Jesse nodded and smiles at him. Jesse's stomach and Sal's stomach growled in unison. Sal decided it was time for them to eat. Jesse, being the sneaky shit she was, caught fish easily. They are until they were satisfied and then they settled down and slept. The next day Sal felt her arm shift, she looked down and saw Cloud tugging at her. She smiled slightly at his nervous expression.
"What's the matter Cloud?"
"I uh... I need help... I dropped my
j-jacket and I c-can't find it... S-sorry to bother you"She chuckled and nodded. She got up and found his jacket by a tree near by. She walked back and handed it too him. She woke Jesse up and called out for Mist.
You're better at this than I'd thought you'd be
'What do you mean' Sal thought back to Mist.
You're acting like the mother they never had
'Once again I ask, what do you mean?'
Jesse is abused by her aunt constantly. Her aunt is her only family member now. Cloud only has his father after his mother and sister died when he was three. You've seen how his father treats him. You're their only refuge now.
Sal realized how good she had it. She was a 14 year old who had both parents both with stable incomes. She was just constantly made fun of because of her ethical background. She was a Mexican with a British accent.
'So why'd the heavens or whatever pick a baby, a disable, and a Mexican Brit?'
The gods have interesting choices
Sal decided mist was right.
They walked for hours and hours and hours and hours and hours on end. Sal was extremely tired and loudly expressed it. Jesse was asleep and being carried by Cloud. Jesse was only six so they agreed she needed her naps. Cloud was obviously dead tired but didnt complain or even yawn. He just stayed close to Sal in order to not wander off. They trudged on without taking a single break. Their legs and arms were aching. They both had headaches. Sal's eyelids were getting dangerously heavy. Then Sal suddenly collapsed in front of a large marbel mansion. She heard two loud thuds beside her before she completely blacked out.
