Chapter 7:
Corridor Cuddles:
“Hey, so, how’s eighties day treating you?” I ask Cassie, as she pulls up next to me beside our lockers. I open mine, and swap my books, trying to remember what lesson I have next.
“Absolutely brilliant!” Cassie beams, and I raise an eyebrow at her
“Oh really, do you want to go on and maybe explain?” I prompt, teasing her slightly. She giggles, and slides her eyes across the room. I follow her eyes, and gasp when they stop at the entrance to the corridor.
And Patty is walking down.
“You mean?!” I gasp, suddenly so excited. Finally, after all these years of Patty loving her, she finally returns his love. The biggest, cheesiest, soppiest grin is on my face. Patty obviously sees Cassie smiling in his direction, and he smiles back. The most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen him smile.
It’s so cute. My stomach feels like it might explode just because of the warmth I feel knowing my two favourite people are going to live happily ever after.
“Yes! Caleb Masons asked me to go grab some pizza after school!” Cassie squeals, and immediately my eyebrows knit together in confusion.
“What?!” I squeak, and she points to just past Patty’s head, and there he stands, Caleb Masons, wearing the same football jersey as Ted. Only, Ted looks better in his. My eyes dart from side to side in realisation to what I’ve just thought, and I hurriedly look at Cassie again.
“Yes! So, I want you and Patty to come with us tonight!”
“Where am I coming?” Patty asks, having just arrived. He leans against the locker, his shiny hair falling in front of his eyes, and he brings up his hand to move it out of the way. I see Cassie watching him do this, and her eyes have a strange look in them.
Could it be love?
“You’re coming to the pizza place with Caleb, Marnie and I!” Cassie says, and she smiles over at Caleb. He brings a hand up to wave at her, and she gives him the flirty fingers. I want to walk over and punch Caleb for doing this.
He has to come in and meddle in between a beautiful relationship that could have formed between Cassie and Patty. But no, Caleb had to come in and flaunt his jock jersey and his muscles, and Cassie’s swooning over him instead of Patty.
It’s just annoying when you think about it.
Patty pulls a face, highlighting his extreme awkwardness about the situation. Cassie turns back around to us, and Patty’s face changes immediately to a bright smile.
“Yeah, that sounds super fun, what time shall I be there?” Patty asks, and Cassie smiles brightly at him. I pull my face into a smile too, and I nod at Cassie. Suddenly, I feel a large hand on the small of my back, and a warm body next to mine.
“Hey, what’s going on?” Ted asks, and I feel my cheeks reddening at his contact. I discreetly move my hand to remove his, and he intertwines his fingers with mine. My eyes widen considerably, but thankfully I don’t think anyone notices.
“We’re going to grab pizza after school, you’re more than welcome to join us” Cassie schmooze’s, and Ted grins.
“Sounds cool, Jones, you going?” Ted asks, and I nod, suddenly tongue tied. I don’t know what’s come over me; I’ve never been like this.
“Ok, I’ll catch you later” Ted says, and he releases his hand from mine and walks away. I release a small moan at the loss of contact, but quickly close my mouth. What is Ted Davies doing to me?
