Isabelle blanched. This girl could not be the legendary warrior. She was just a kid not a- Her thought broke off as Clarissa shifted and revealed the daggers attached to her belt. Isabelle concentrated and saw through the mask she had tried so hard to put on. But it showed in some places. The darker sections she had spotted earlier were crimson. Blood. Her body was tiny, but athletic and strong, the body of a warrior, her clothes were loose enough not to restrain movement, but tight enough to not get in the way, a lot like Isabelle's own gear. She was smirking again, but the look in her eyes stayed the same. "So did you guys need something or just wanted some half decent company?" Clarissa reminded her of Jace. Isabelle decided. They had the same way of speaking and a way of walking as if they expected people to be looking at them. "You're Clarissa Morgenstern?" Isabelle was in awe that someone so young could cause so many problems for the clave. "Yup, the terror of the institute I believe the last spy you sent called me," she had sat on the table at the other end of the room,"My reputation always precedes me." She said with an air of arrogance Well she was right about that, Isabelle thought. She was known across the world as a ruthless killing machine. The girl who created runes that could kill people in the worst way, leaving nothing but bones left to bury. The image of her walking away from a battle field in the dying light, with her hair burning like fire behind her leaving death and destruction in her wake, could insight fear into the most battle hardened warriors. "Done gawking?"Isabelle was snapped out of her daze. She tried to change the subject. "What was your call about?" Clarissa's face turned sour. "My idiot of a brother trying to get himself killed by fighting with vampires." Her brother Jonathan. "He has demon blood shouldn't he be able to beat a vampire?" She barked a humorless laugh. "He has demon blood not increased speed and rapid reflexes, Simon's also what you would call a, "special vampire". She was about to open her mouth to ask more about the "special vampire" when Clarissa stood abruptly and strode towards her. She had pulled out a knife and was cursing under her breath as she cut the bonds. Isabelle was preparing to spring when she felt the pressure of a stele on her exposed shoulder. And couldn't move. Well that wasn't true, her legs could still strain against her bonds but her hands which had been doing the same had frozen. Clarissa grabbed her arm and dragged her up. "You can still talk if you were wondering," she paused, looking her over, "Never mind you were probably going to try anyway" Izzy glared at her affronted, while Clarissa just smirked. She grabbed a coil of rope from her belt and tied her arms. "Why'd you tie my arms if I can't move them?" Isabelle said cocking her head. "For show," she said simply, "I'm not supposed to use that rune on you." Clarissa explained. Fear crept into Isabelle yet again. "What did you just put on me?" She hoped there was steel in her tone but considering that there was pride instead of caution in her eyes, she was wrong. "A motionless rune," her spine straightened, "There's a few different variations of it so you can decide if there's any parts of the body you still want the victim to be able to move, I'm not supposed to use it on you because I'm not supposed to use untested runes on prisoners we want alive, god, you kill one damn council member and suddenly your punished for life," she threw her hand up in the air in exasperation. Isabelle laughed despite herself, and she grinned. "Alright come on, my dad wants to talk to you." Isabelle's heart was in her stomach. Clarissa was surveying her. "You just went pale, you're scared of my dad," she took on a mocking tone, "I thought you big bad clave members weren't afraid of anything." She stayed silent. Clarissa grinned again and grabbed the rope tying her wrists. "I can walk you know." Isabelle snapped. She grinned. Again. She was going to kill her. Once she got out of here and this damn rune wore off. Clarissa led her down a long hallway lit only with witchlight. Isabelle blinked as they finally left the dark building and found what looked like an army base. There were what looked like a hundred members. All with circle runes. "There are this many people in the circle?" Isabelle was appalled. The Clave thought they were facing fifty Shadowhunters at most, and here was twice that amount. Clarissa's voice was not proud as it had been when she had talked about her father before. "Yeah, theres only like 150 of us." She gaped, where we're the rest of them? Clarissa continued, not really caring if she was listening. "The Downworlders who work with us have separate barracks across camp, and a good amount are on missions." Oh god they could never handle this many, they were much better trained and- "Did you say Downworlders? I thought your father hated them." Before she could respond a vampire across camp called to her. "Hey Clary," and was next to them in a second. Isabelle blinked. It was the middle of the day how the hell was he out here. "Get out of here Lewis," her happy tone did not match her annoyed words, "Can't you see I'm busy here." She gestured to Isabelle with the hand that was not holding her. Lewis. Simon Lewis. The Daylighter. He wiggled his eyebrows at her. "Hey sexy." Isabelle recoiled. Did he just attempt to flirt with her. "Oh stop it Simon, don't make me tell Raphael," the leader of the Brooklyn vampire clan was working with them too, "You're only supposed to flirt with your boyfriend." Simon snorted. "Tell Raphael to wear shirts that low cut and ill flirt with him too." Isabelle would have flipped him off if her hands could move. Luckily Clarissa did it for her. He laughed. "Oh by the way avoid your dad for awhile, he's pissy today." Did he just call the legendary warrior Valentine Morgenstern pissy? Clarissa groaned. "Great, he probably found out about the wards I put around your barracks, he's going to kill me-" Simon cut her off. "It was actually Jonathon today." She was laughing now. "Oh god what did Mr. Perfect do? Leave a spec of blood on his seraph blade?" Simon shook his head. "Apparently he skipped training and talked back to your dad when he yelled at him for it. He's in the pit right now." Clarissa was doubled over laughing, "I wonder if he'll find all the messages I've left him over the years." They were both laughing now. "I don't think his perfect eyes could take it." Isabelle snorted and Clarissa straightened up seeming to remember her for the first time. She grabbed Simon's wrist and watch and cursed as she dropped it. "My dad wanted you ten minutes ago, damn he's going to kill both of us now." Isabelle had completely forgotten that she was being taken to see him. Clarissa waved bye to Simon and took off running with one arm dragging Isabelle, who was forced to run towards her doom.
